With many influences ‘Dileke' is a difficult track to locate. As a micro-cosom of unique ingredients from eclectic and singular sources. Amongst sampled celebratory chants from East Africa and synthetic atmospheric pads that bring a taste of European production, lies a percussive-heart beating with the unusual pairing of cumbia and hip hop sampled from the sounds found at the historic Zocalo, public square in Mexico DF.

Peruvian duo Dengue Dengue Dengue return to Enchufada with new single ‘Ágni’, a slow-burning and hypnotic song named after the inversion of the traditional Afroperuvian rhythm called ‘Ingá’. Felipe Salmon and Rafael Pereira continue to expand the carefully created aesthetic that they have crafted over the years, ever since their 2012 debut ‘La Alianza Profana’ brought the thriving South American digital cumbia scene to international attention. 

‘Ágni’ follows up on their 2018 EP ‘Son de los Diablos’ and paves the way for their anticipated third album, scheduled for later this year. Their new release sets the tone with a slow and menacing 4x4 beat at 110BPM, accompanied by intricate organic percussion, intertwining wind melodies and big looming bass notes that together create a ritualistic listening experience. 

It is the first time the duo has recorded with live musicians, having connected with Pudy Ballumbrosio, from the renowned Afroperuvian percussionist dynasty the Ballumbrosios, to lay down intricate syncopated cajón patterns and quijada, the iconic ancestral instrument made out of a donkey’s jawbone, all inherited from the musical traditions brought to the country by African slaves. This collaboration will expand beyond the studio as Dengue Dengue Dengue will begin touring with the Ballumbrosio brothers all throughout Europe this summer, and have documented their entrancing live performances on the psychedelic video that accompanies ‘Ágni’.
