'Brooklyn’s Bastard Jazz Recordings has been running since 2001, and continues to blaze a trail for independent record labels worldwide. With a global roster that spans from funk to hip hop, from house to soul, from jazz to forward thinking beats, alongside its unrelenting commitment to the vinyl medium, label founder Aaron Schultz continues on his quest to sign and nurture new talent and new sounds 20 years on, still going strong. 

 

Making a return to Bastard Jazz is fellow Brooklynite Peter Matson with his dancefloor ready ‘The Right Way’. Matson is a global touring artist with a long and winding history as a musician, producer, and DJ, who is well known as front man of seminal NYC post-punk band Underground System. He’s just released the brilliant ‘Big Time EP’ alongside JKriv on Heist Recordings, he’s had outings on Soul Clap, Hell Yeah and Planet E, with more quality dropping soon on Razor-N-Tape, and the much-revered Heavenly Sweetness, topped off with remixes by Yuksek and Detroit Legend Andres.

 

‘The Right Way’ boasts an impressive list of collaborators, with ‘Call and Answer’ featuring Ibibio Sound Machine’s vocalist Eno Williams on the Afro-Disco workout.  London’s Faze Action are back with a bang on the remix frontline flipping the title track towards their signature sound, where Afro beats meet proto house, with lashings of disco vibes. There are two instrumentals that include the slow building Italo burner ‘The Right Way’, and the more Balearic leaning ‘PB (Ça Va)’. The digital package includes a bonus cut with Faze Action delivering an instrumental shade of the title cut for those that prefer to leave the vocal aside.  Weaving together Peter Matson’s affinity for the dancefloor with African influences, this EP culminates in a record that is both genre-bending and timelessly danceable.'
