Sebass: Vienna’s Unbreakable Spirit A tribute to the warriors who fight battles most never see.

I’ve always loved a good warrior story. But every now and then, you come across a real one—someone whose fight isn’t waged with swords or fists, but with sheer willpower and soul. That’s what happened when I stumbled across a Reddit post by a lad named Sebastian Gisperg.

Seb’s story hit me like a freight train. A kid from Vienna who spent time here in Aotearoa, went to Lincoln High, and now lives with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME/CFS)—a brutal, multi-system illness that steals energy, clarity, and comfort from its victims. It’s invisible to most, misunderstood by many, and often dismissed with cruel labels like “lazy” or “crazy.” But Seb? He’s anything but.

Before ME, he was a surfer, an athlete, and a killer DJ. Now, he’s mostly bedridden. But from that bed, he creates some of the most beautiful, soul-piercing drum and bass I’ve ever heard. That’s his fight. That’s his weapon. And that’s what inspired me to write a track called Sebass: Vienna’s Unbreakable Spirit.

This song is also for my cousin, Sarah Goldsbury, who lives with long COVID—a condition that mirrors ME in many ways. I didn’t tell her about the track until now, and I’m sorry for that. But through Seb, I learned about “pacing”—a way of life that both Seb and Sarah embody. It’s not just a strategy. It’s survival. It’s grace under fire.

The track itself is a sonic battle—two pieces of music clashing, colliding, and ultimately coexisting. It’s chaos and clarity. Pain and perseverance. It’s the sound of warriors fighting invisible wars every single day. And the cover? That’s Seb’s bed—not just a place of rest, but a spaceship. In the Woodyverse, he’s an entity who drifts through the cosmos, broadcasting tunes from his audio-producing starship, bringing light to galaxies even when he can’t see it himself.

To Seb, to Sarah, and to every soul fighting in silence: this one’s for you. Your spirit is unbreakable. Seb your music is medicine. And your story deserves to echo across the stars.
