Dublin producer DJ Mudak 2000 (@djmudak2000) is back on the infamous Braindance for their third release.

Opening things off we have Dubaton, a melancholic yet driving track made up of swirling dubbed-out drums and lush pads which are glued together by a deep hitting sub. This one reaches a beautiful motivating point and is definitely one to seek out on a late night walk home. 

Inertia is a very bright track with Beltran-esque plucks that float over airy chords. These elements accompanied by some expertly filtered subs and a heavy kick pattern drag you back from the sky and remind you that this track can fill the floor just as well as it can accompany you in a daydream. 

Metallic follows in a similar ilk, this time the name of the song references the commanding percussive element of the song which loops  while all the elements around it drift in and out in almost a wave-like manner. 

Now and Then is an amazing yet not too jarring change of pace. Electro arps, footwork jungle breaks and delayed chords make for an incredible amalgamation which erupts into a “tops off” drop of breakbeat euphoria.

Slow Dance is a peak time, half time, monster. This one is made for that transformative moment on a dancefloor when it evolves from coordinated dancing into an all out mosh pit. This track definitely highlights Mudak's prowess as a producer, being able to cover all realms of modern 160 and up in an effortless fashion. 

The final track Wack is far from its namesake. Another dancefloor destroyer, Wack is a weighty, punchy track which will leave you battered and bruised. This track also features an incredible switch up from half time into a more footwork rhythm which will twist crowds minds like a wet rag.

The next offering from our in-demand Satellite Trax sublabel brings us just north of our HQ in Madison as we finally connect with an electrifying club music maker. When it comes to the Midwest, you really do not have to travel far to find a hardworking artist that is deserving of the spotlight.

Our first encounter with Bottoni and his growing collection of dancefloor sonics came in 2022 while digitally crate digging on Bandcamp. We were astonished to learn that these tracks were not coming from an unknown bedroom producer in the UK, but rather from an emerging talent out of the great state of Wisconsin. His work then made it to our friends at YUKU, a prolific label pushing forward-thinking art out of Prague. The familiarity in his sound implies that he is a student of formative club music from across the pond, yet his take on it feels more than just a nostalgic recreation.

Bottoni’s obsession with late-90s jungle and drum ‘n’ bass makes his productions feel like a balanced blend of rustic influences with modern, high-fidelity characteristics. This can be heard throughout “Stone Wheel EP,” his latest contribution to the global market of dancefloor weaponry. The project wastes no time in raising the energy with its title track - groovy percussive elements are layered over its heavy bassline, serving as a proper introduction. Already a favorite of our DJ allies that are giving it early playtime, “Mae” is a dark twist to the EP with its rattling low-end and off-kilter structure. “Dusk Pan” is a showcase of jungle down to its simplest form, where its breakbeats are allowed to shine and the sample selection can be flaunted. “Hellp” explores a jazzy side of the project, while still being held together by grueling bass and shuffling percussion. To demonstrate his passion for our music history, Bottoni recruited one of Chicago’s most prominent figures in its niche drum ‘n’ bass community. @stunna takes on remix duties for “Hellp,” turning up the tempo and fusing an old-school DnB style with soulful traits that leave it on an uplifting note.

Disclaimer: “Stone Wheel EP” contains serious bass weight. As some of Bottoni’s best work yet, the project solidifies that he is more than just an underground up-and-comer. He is ready to elevate his status from a renowned local DJ, to a household name in the dance music sphere. With each of his new releases freshening up the club circuit, we have no doubt that the growth in audience will happen soon enough.

Fork and Knife makes an exquisite return to the Articulate family with his remix of Retrospect's 'Jewel'. While the original takes things down a sublime funky bass route, Fork & Knife puts his carefully crafted skillset to great use on the remix, bringing forth everything we've come to love from the London-based producer. A strong 140 lick, this remix is a dream for MCs; a smashing, interrogating kick drum really sets the stage, pairing with cascading snare hits and grimey synths to provide a real driving force for the track.
