It’s safe to say, we love a good celebration here at OTW. Whether it’s 1 year, 5 years, 10 years or 20 in the game, or to just mark an end to the year, it’s always cause for joy, for both label and listener. These jovial proceedings usually incorporate a celebratory compilation to boot, sometimes formed of a collection of said imprint’s finest tracks of the year (+ some compilation exclusives), and sometimes we’re treated to an extra-special, carefully-curated remix VA (various artists). As one of our favourite release mediums in electronic music, these VA’s typically see some of the best tracks of a label’s tenure reworked, revitalised and rethought (often by other label stalwarts and frequent collaborators, but also by new blood as well), bounding down a new, fresh avenue, shining a gleaming creative light on a sound that we perhaps couldn’t visualise, or even imagine before. In my opinion, this is one of the finest ways to go about it, and that’s exactly what we’re looking at today.

Detached Audio have established themselves as a real hotspot for both new and established talent (often on an international basis) since their inception 5 years ago, as evidenced by their recent releases from the likes of D Flect, Mindloader, Linear, label boss K2T and more. Relishing their position as an independent startup, the Detached Audio crew have proved time and time again that they can supply the goods, hitting a multitude of tones across soulful, deep, minimal, vocal and techy Drum & Bass - that’s what we love about Detached, it’s not only the diversity in team and artists, but also the music as well. Having already released a compilation of original tracks to celebrate 5 years, they now present a full, 5-track remix EP featuring Madusea, Echo Motion, Incus, Elemental Entropy and Hex.

It’s truly brilliant across the board, and we’re delighted to be premiering Glasgow don and DnBDojo bossman Hex’s remix of Sirus’ breathtaking ‘Arashi’, which you can listen to in all its glory here. The original was an absolute barrage of high-tempo, bass-laden pressure, incorporating high-energy, choppy breakbeats with cascading, layered percs, diving fully into the murky depths of the 174 spectrum. Stunningly, Hex completely flips it on its head, heading straight for the bassbins. Focusing less on the breaks-y nature of the original, here we’re treated to a pounding, four-to-the-floor Drum & Bass workout, making perfect use of the original’s gritty main synth and superb bass lead. It’s crisp, it’s tight, it’s moody; it’s exactly what we wanted from a remix of ‘Arashi’. What a cracking addition to the Detached Audio catalogue.
