On Sunday, September 5, 2021 REFORM will be taking over the bustling and historic bi-level Catch One venue with a 4-room House + Techno lineup. Located on Pico Avenue near Downtown Los Angeles, Catch One originally opened in 1973 and was the longest-running black gay dance bar in the city. It now serves as one of LA's premiere multi-purpose venues, making it an ideal space for REFORM to host 20+ Techno, House and Experimental artists across four rooms.

Los-Angeles based artist Ønyx provides an exclusive 30-minute mix. Catch her playing a b2b with Insical during REFORM by Day. Headlining the day programming is New York City legend Danny Tenaglia, underground techno and acid maestro Josh Wink, the industrial techno enigmatic figure that is Headless Horseman, and experimental techno-wizard Rrose.

Live at the WORK Warehouse: Ønyx (April 16th, 2022)

Enter the world of Ønyx, an Iranian American artist who fuses sonic dreams in her electrifying audio creations. With roots in Paris and California, Ønyx's love for electronic music, particularly techno, reconnects her to her European heritage.

Defying genre boundaries, Ønyx crafts a captivating blend of grungy, energetic, and playful sounds. But her artistry doesn't stop there. With a keen eye for visual storytelling, Ønyx creates mesmerizing audiovisual landscapes, blurring the line between imagination and reality. Surrender to the power of dreams with Ønyx.

Ønyx on their mix for Dreamcast: "This mix is my most diverse one out. While it’s got that techno undercurrent, there’s also that blend in breaks, ghetto tech and jungle influences. I wanted to curate something with less strict bounds around myself – in other words, a full send. It’s been a while since I put out a mix, so I really wanted to put something out there that reflects my current sound and what inspires me most now."

Tell us a bit about the LA scene right now: "The LA scene feels like it’s booming and exploding with all the flavors. Whether you want to hear techno, house, electro, industrial, drum and bass, jungle, breaks, ambient, experimental, modular – there’s something for you out here. Such diverse and eclectic artists are brought from all around the world every month, not to mention there's also insanely killer local talent. Shoutout to LA based promoters like 6AM, Dirty Epic, Into the Woods, Lights Down Low, Fast at Work, SoulfulxNature, Split Checks and MILLK to name a few – for always raising the bar, bringing the heat, and providing safe community spaces to dance in Los Angeles."

Live at the WORK Warehouse: ØNYX (June 21, 2024)

In anticipation of her set in support of @nicomoreno_music this Friday, Nov. 15 in LA, we're proud to welcome Ønyx (@onyxmusix) for the second edition of our #Factory93Podcast. ♡ 

Ønyx is an Iranian American artist originating from Paris, with a passion for all things storytelling through sound and visual medium.

Small Girl, Big Beats. ♡ Her eclectic style weaves in vibrant influences of textural groove, bass-heavy electro, and broken rhythms. She’s performed for massive underground staples like 6AM, Dirty Epic and Incognito, while supporting a diverse array of headliners including Julia Govor, Coyu, Rrose, Ghost in the Machine, and Ansome.

An impactful contributor to the dance music community, Ønyx set the tone for live event after movies in the underground space, capturing intimate vignettes of the warehouse. She’s also a resident DJ of techno collective SplitChecks, wherein she co-curates their monthly residency Dimly Lit – an intimate night of techno, breaks, and electro at the Melody Lounge.

“This mix is inspired by cycles of grief and nonlinearity. Leaning into darker tones and more of a heady, experimental place rather than curated from a dance floor forward perspective. With tempo jumps from 100 - 170bpm, back down to 120bpm and up to 160bpm again, it's meant to create senses of ever-shifting, disorienting and yet still remain reflective as a backdrop. ” - ØNYX

About our Guest:
Ønyx is an Iranian American artist originating from Paris, with a passion for all things storytelling through sound and visual medium. Her multidisciplinary approach to music curation stems from her background in video editing and sound design. Her style draws from influences of techno and broken beat. She's performed for Los Angeles staples like HARD, Factory93, 6AM, RE/FORM, Dirty Epic and Incognito. She's also a resident DJ of Splitchecks. 

About the Show:
Body Tools Sessions is a live audio video broadcast that happens on the First Saturday of every month from 1pm to 4pm PST on the VPN network. Each episode features a mix by a Body Tools resident on the first hour and a half, and then a special guest mix is featured on the second hour and a half. Once the stream is finished we always post the videos and audio the following week to our archive on SoundCloud, YouTube, & Vimeo.
