We move our new talent search over to Germany for the 'Prisoners' EP from Tantum. Thomas aka Tantum has already impressed with his production skills, landing releases on Pokerflat, EIN2 and Juicebox Music in just a year! His three-track Lowbit debut shows why this is someone to keep an eye on.

The eponymous 'Prisoners' starts the EP off with a deep atmospheric vibe building it up slowly through the arrangement culminating in a hypnotic and atmospheric finale. 'Bethnal Green' continues the musical journey going into a heady dark progressive vibe with its mesmerizing arpeggios and stabs. 'The Peak' wraps things up, taking the listener to their final destination with its warm melodies and soothing pad work.

Finnish producer Jori Hulkkonen needs little introduction, having been at the heart of the electronic music scene for the best part of two decades, recording for legendary labels such as F Communication & Turbo. 2012 saw the highly respected Mr Hulkkonen team up with one of the hottest labels around, Toronto’s My Favorite Robot Records for the release of his latest long player ‘Negative Time’. Now Jori and the label’s A&R team have compiled a stunning selection of remixes created from some of the highlights of the album.

The package kicks off with ‘Step Aside feat Harri Falck(Phonogenic remix)’, a track that sees fellow Finnish producer Tuomas Salmela AKA Phonogenic take the reins and create a pulsing, acidic version that is simply stunning. Next up MFRR stable mate Fairmont gets to grips with ‘Liquid Hologram feat JiiHoo’, turning in mix which steps further into the acid area with a full blooded 303 workout. The Scandinavian connection is picked up once again as Denmark’s Kasper Bjorke gives his interpretation of ‘Vile Talk feat JiiHoo’ offering up an excellent disco tech fusion that does justice to the original song.

Entering the second half of the package we have Of Norway taking apart ‘Do It feat Olga Kouklaki’ and reimagining it as a stripped and spacious slice of techy house with real electronic soul. The penultimate cut sees up and coming artist Sync Mode remix ‘Technowater’ into a taught, bass driven groove that draws on twisted vocal parts and some sterling drum programming. Finally we get a dub version of the opening mix from Phonogenic bringing a Larry Heard-esque vibe to bear in a very good way.
A superb package of mixes that truly do justice to Jori Hulkkonen’s brilliant originals, enjoy!

A kaleidoscope of sounds lends a certain dramaturgy to ‘Swerve.’ This eerie electronic track gently builds and releases, effortlessly weaving classic tech-house sounds with symphonic strings.

Dark, pulsating, you can almost smell the Palo Santo as ‘Ritual’ burns with ceremonial flair. Moody basslines blended with shamanistic arpeggios conjure a rite of passage in this evocative track. 

Lending from the Sanskrit word to gather together, ‘Gana’ catalyses a certain furthering of a common goal: which is to revel in the low-end rhythms and atmospheric vocals of this track.

Driving snares accentuate the spooky vocals of ‘Tribe,’ a distinctive and complex track which invites you to explore a common culture of textured, technicolour rhythms.  

‘On The Way’ steps out with intention: punchy drum beats gather momentum as atmospheric synths and twisted frequencies remind us that the pleasure is in the journey, not the destination.

The soundtrack the sophisticated raver gets down to, ‘Equilibrium’ is a must-listen for those who wish to strike a balance between the harder edge of techno and the softer curves of ambient euphoria.

Based in Reading UK, Ooeez has been creating music in his own purpose-built garden log cabin/studio for years. With his own brand of House, influenced by the likes of Deadmau5 & Daft Punk, Ooeez has had air play on both house music digital radio station Select Radio and RUAR, and local BBC radio, BBC Radio Berkshire. Ooeez's first release was a dance mix for local band The Caligari's and since then he has also released his own singles (available on the usual digital stores). Ooeez is currently working on his first album.
