after struggling with the idea of sharing the news in the midst of these sad days, we came to the conclusion that cultural action—once again—can be the most effective weapon against all this patriarchal and anachronistic idiocy.

The luminous one, “Diamond Ben” Kudler, presents a pairing of challenging computer music on compact disc with a book of sentimentally charged photography for Psychic Liberation’s first print publication: “My Summer Vacation”. The book is a collection of photos taken during the artist’s eventful summer and lingering into early fall of 2021. Kudler pairs each photograph on the release with an audio recording, offering a contextual lead for the listener-cum-viewer. Kudler uses this equality of formats to provide a mildly different image and sound consumption experience from those constantly emanating from digital devices. The photos are accessible, pedestrian, usually only alluding to the difficulty of that particular summer by its’ pairing with the sound design on the CD.
 
Kudler notes : 
“The tracks were recorded using synthesis techniques taken from a few different sources and usually realized with the SuperCollider' suite for sound generation, with the exception of track three, recorded with some software from the MIMIC platform. For those interested in learning more or exploring their own methods of sound creation using ones contained on this CD (as I did with the recordings of many others in order to create these recordings); Maryanne Amacher’s technique of producing DPOAEs (distorted product otoacoustic emissions), Trevor Wishart’s conception of the “waveset” and “waveset transformation” that were further explained by Curtis Roads along with Road’s “pulsar synthesis” are all used on several tracks. Machine learning processes developed at Google that manifested in their Magenta software were used as well. Finally, the MIMIC teams work into synthesis with machine learning, with special help form Mick Grierson and concepts conceived around generative music composition from Roger T. Dean, Jonathan McCormack, and George Lewis were built upon to create several of the tracks.”
 
In Kudler’s work as a performer and a computer music historian (see “Computer Music For Dorks” via the Anomia Soundcloud), the work he has workshopped and developed for over a decade is uniquely interpersonal and idiosyncratic, always generous and open. “My Summer Vacation” acts as another wildly personal chapter to Kudler’s growing sonic and visual vocabulary.

WEȽ∝KER's 'ENHANCER' offers a high dive into the soggy hands and lands of Dujat & Beedles. Having planted their flag firmly at the forefront of modern computer music, WEȽ∝KER return with 'ENHANCER', an astonishingly dynamic display of technique and form.
This isn't sound for sound's sake; the duo's playful approach to composition ties many discrete events together to weave a warm-bath narrative. A tug at the skittering top layer reveals something so rare: there's real musicality under there, aching chords snaking through the crunchy boot-up sequence of "Gator" and underpinning the pneumatic drift of "Ohmbase".
ENHANCER's tracks unfurl with an instinctive flow, pulling/pushing in all the right places and guiding the listener through aural aqueducts. WEȽ∝KER are just truly properly at it again.

Warm Winters Ltd. is pleased to announce JC Leisure’s (@jcleisure) latest solo release, 'Mutations For'. The album is built from the artist's collection of mixtapes from circa 1992 onwards that distil the counterculture of rave, free parties and pirate radio broadcasts. 

For the last couple of years this archive has formed the basis for JC Leisure’s hybrid DJ cassette sets, a handful of which are archived on Bandcamp. Aware of each cassette's cultural legacy, with 'Mutations For' JC Leisure sets out to give the archive a higher form of autonomy. Similar to the audio-to-midi processes he developed with his band Raft of Trash (where they use the world-building game Simcity3000 as raw material) the cassette tapes are sampled live and fed to synthesizers, software patches and samplers; allowing them to write their own melodies and rhythms. Leisure has worked with and alongside these results and offers them up on 'Mutations For' as an alternative future to a counterculture's unstable history. 

These ideas are explored further in collaboration with designer Afonso de Matos on the poster that forms the physical realization of this work.

Full release coming March 20, 2020.
