I was delighted to win a short custom song by my friend Leslie Hudson (https://lesliehudson.com/) years ago at a filk convention; proceeds went to a good cause. Leslie Hudson and Kristian Børresen put this song together for me, in honour of my new solo picture book with Simon & Schuster, I WANT TO READ *ALL* THE BOOKS.

From Leslie:

"Musically, I’ve always found 5/4 the hardest time signature to write in. But I learned! Because when I started with the phrase “I want to read all the books” I found that 5/4 is what it wanted to be written in. I’ve since come to see it as the musical equivalent of iambic pentameter. Maybe because it takes the natural phrasings of English particularly well.

Kristian Børresen (my co-writer) said he was inspired by the Nutcracker when composing the score behind the a cappella vocals I sent him. Speaking as a parent, he said the lyrics/attitude were all too real. 😉 I talked to him about the work you do and that you might find a way to use the song with your writing projects and the kids you educate so he had that in mind when bringing the music together. Tonight when I listened to it for the first time, he asked me if I thought kids would like the music and I said it’s epic! The way the soundtrack to the Smurfs was epic – huge classical soundscapes behind melodramatic emotions, but also 'run, Smurfette, run! Gargamel is coming!' I think the music tells a story of its own."

Love the original song.  Change lyrics to be less insensitive to the female gender.  Change the "great" to "good" because my version is worse than the original of course.  Made it more punk too.
