Under the Second Story alias, Alex Storey has always been good at joining the dots between vintage electro, Rephlex-style braindance, IDM and modern British bass music. He's at it again on this latest EP for longtime home Houndstooth. So, while "Grand Rapid" rattles along at a ghetto-tech pace, its' sub-bass pulse and intergalactic textures recall Drexciya at their robust best. These electro influences come to the fore on the shimmering, starburst strut of "Bismuth" and deliciously saucer-eyed "Vapor Valve", while "Helicat" packs more Star Wars-inspired funk into its' too-short duration than many would think humanly possible.
