OOH-sounds family members more eaze, pardo & glass join forces on a celestial album linking ambient neo-folk, fractured electronics and romantic escapism.

Referencing to Wim Wenders' 1984 road-movie drama masterpiece, ‘paris paris, texas texas’ is a strikingly cinematic tapestry of americana, resampled guitars, glistening electronics, subtle field recordings and processed vocals.

The beginnings of this project date back to the summer of 2022 when pardo and glass started recording some improvisations in a small studio with the aim of making an experimental guitar record. Over time, the drafts developed into mesmerizing slabs of guitar textures, simultaneously immense and intimate. No material was better suited for more eaze to add to the recordings her transversal and sensitive approach, linking the past and the present.

Ranging from gentle ambient folk to winding pedal steel passages, from twinkling electronics to distorted drones, ‘paris paris, texas texas’ is an album that’s not just “atmospheric”, it conjures its own unique atmosphere from thin air. Like a snake shedding its skin, the record slowly mutates from track to track - an epiphany, a transformation, a tangible and perceptible moment. Despite its distant trans- Atlantic origins, it evokes a warmth and intimacy that is hard to deny, an emotion that has perhaps been held back for too long. A landmark release in OOH’s catalogue, capturing the magic of its curation and sensibility in one sublime record.

The 38th release of katharsis and our final release of 2023 is the prodigious compilation "Embracing Darkness, Absorbing Light" featuring a vast array of artist beloved by the label. Throughout the grandiose line-up of the 36 tracks, the listener is absorbed by various differing interpretations of the theme outlined in the title of the album. Some of the invited artist went full into introverted progressions and meditative sounds, while others focused on aggressive rhythms or anthemic melodies. But even though the styles and techniques of the songs differ from each other, the artists seem to have some commonality in their sonic palettes that binds it all together in a mutual love for music as a healing force of nature <3

Following the events of "Annihilation", xato presents the second part of his personal odyssey, "Irrational Fear".

"Irrational Fear" explores the dark self with intense drone recordings being the main sound focus of the project, surrounded by field-recording manipulations and deeply evolving textures.

As the project's tracks aged between 2020 and 2022, it never felt like the right time to release the project. However things changed when the reasons behind the tracks were revamped in the more recent years.

Frederic Arbours musical output over the last twenty five years has been one of consistent, dark eyed focus. His project Visions and the collaborative Skorneg has issued abyssal dark ambient and textured minimal drones respectively. Further, the output of Stärker, his duo with Martin Dumais, published isolating industrial techno on Hospital Productions and Zhark, notable amidst a sea of clones for their conviction in utterly colourless productions, the sound of factories producing for a customer long since dead. Purgate feels like a conglomeration of this previous work with eyes set outward and upwards, space gazing instead of bowed toward the iron ball beneath all of our feet. 

Opener ‘Starlight’ rubs its eyes open to a freezing morning shuffle. Pulsing effects bleating a line drawn through snow while hats wrinkle around the globular mass of the centre. It’s dubby heart obscured in a cloud of acrid smoke. ‘Solar Flare’ is a reverberant chorus of chirping metal delay lines entwined around a thick techno throb, a smokescreen of detail ready to disrupt anyones passage through the club. 

Things get more discordant and drawn away from the slope with ‘Dawn’. Again a motif of birdsong and animalia are chromed out and burnished at the polish. A vertigo music for the 3am swap out. ‘Mist’ offers a light touch, a clearing in the sky where the perfect black backdrop can be better felt, each repetition puncturing and punctuating a profound minimalism. We close, of course, with ‘Closure’, the weight repositioned into a rich sub burrowing. Wood and metal sound against one another as the sky touches the earth.
