Starting off with the equally named track, our ears hear rolling melodic techno, which fires sirens surrounded by a constantly catchy groove. Keeping a captivating groove the two are diving into a deeper realm with 'Auroris'. And finally there is 'Consistence'. The calm beat and the hopeful synth line lying underneath turn it into a wishful dream.

We are glad to welcome Marius Drescher back. And ever since none of his skills to create outstanding progressive house decreased quite the opposite is actually the case. 'Nova' is an unstoppable beat with a chunky bassline almost sounding rusty. This in combination with the arpeggios is just explosive. But there is also 'Not Even Close', which freshens it up a little with vocals and lots of movement in the mix.

Pedro Mercado is an international artist based in Belgium. He is a very experienced & passionate DJ, Producer, Radiohost & Label Manager. His style of music is a unique blend ranging from deep-, organic, afro-, melodic- & progressive-house to ethereal techno.

Open Records is proud to present Backyard Bender, the debut release from Australian artist Tonelab.

Tonelab is Philip Rex, a veteran Melbourne musician from with feet in both the jazz and electronic worlds. One one hand, he is one of Australia’s most accomplished bass players, with multiple ARIA Award nominations and a win for Best Jazz Album in 1998 for The Future In Today.

On the other, he has a rich history in the Australian electronic music scene with legendary progressive trance project Decoy and the techno and house-inspired Rex’n’Chappo, both with longtime collaborator Ian Chaplin. The pair also produced music under the monikers IMPS with Marcus Henriksson and Sebastian Mullaert of Minilogue/Son Kite fame, and toured extensively in Australia and across the world.

Now with Tonelab, Philip is presenting his all-new take on melodic techno and house, with Backyard Bender the perfect introduction to his new sound. Blending a heavy groove with spacious atmospherics, giant stabs and a juicy, swung lead, it’s sure to please longtime fans of both Philip and Open Records’ music.

The A-side is supported by two other fine originals, from the classic pads and pounding bottom-end of Dirty Ducks, to the warm, emotive journey of The Feeling Of Her to close the release out.

Open Records is a techno, house and electronica imprint based out of the sunny state of Queensland, Australia. Founded in the lush tropical paradise of Cairns in 2007 and now managed out of the bustling metropolis of Brisbane, Open has grown into a respected and prolific label with more than 70 releases from artists in all corners of the globe.

The Open sound is just that. Over the years we have released everything from deep, organic, progressive and tech house, to staunch minimal, hypnotic tribal, driving techno and abstract electronica.
