Deep and probing, and as you suggest, in a dream-like way. Plenty of good bass on my monitors, but that happens to me, too, with some of my mixes on laptop speakers.

This is a beautiful song, Marty, and I'm sure what you were trying to portray was some abstract thought that we can't imagine.

Awake in a Dream

Riding on a raft.
The size of myself times two.
At least I can lie down here, he observed.
But there he stood, bearing the waves 
With style and grace.
Not the freak-out craze 
you'd expect
From a giraffe riding on a raft.

Then he said...
At sea, at night, with the moon as my light.
On a raft with a sail, nothing else in sight.
The insistent waves, the clenching winds.
Blowing tight in my sail.
Then a kick in the shins.
I tuck my tail under.  Tuck it real tight.
And skip across like a stone.
A flash in the night.
I leave behind a rooster tail wake.
Just a wake in my dream.

I see her out there.
20–foot tall if she’s an inch.
Her raft-a wreck-a victim to the waves.
I snatch her out just in time and she is just so fine. 
I decided this is just fine.
But today she's my shipmate. 
Who won't stop cursing me.

I feign deafness- a common giraffe reaction. 
Till she rams my neck with her horns. 
Is she mean- or just want some attention?
I never have understand girl giraffes. 
That’s just something I thought I should mention.

Now it’s on to the mangoes- growing free in a grove.
I lift one to her mouth.  Trying to be nice.
She bites down, and it squirts back into my face.
She laughs and then licks it off.  
With a really long giraffe tongue...
And I just…can’t stand it…

Just when we’re about to create a new subspecies, 
We find ourselves in a blinding fast car, blue lights closing in.
One foot on the brake, and one on the gas. 
Forward in time, and aiming to blast.
No recollection after that.
Just her face surrounded by fireflies.  
I tell her all my secrets. I correct all my lies.
And we find a shady domicile.

Now we pass again
Into the whirl of the wind.
Out on a raft.
On a calm sea at night.
The moon lighting her face- 
to my complete delight.

My needs are simple.
I have gotten good with my rear kick.
I have placed my mark in distant places. 
I thank my maker. 
And her eyelashes flutter.
The girl I met-
Who was also awake in my dream.
