Episode Description: I’d like to formally thank Henry Yin-Chen for speaking in today’s episode on “Choosing your pain” – a very well written and through-provoking piece.

I don’t know what you guys think, but I found the things that he spoke about were profoundly relevant to myself, and, at the same time, may be applicable to many of you too.
We are all victims of pain. Yes, there are bad pains, but there are good ones too. In many occasions throughout our life, we only want happiness, so we try our best to avoid pain. Thus, in search for joy, we push away other emotions we don’t like, thinking we’d be left with only happiness. But eventually, and inevitably, we will notice that our life doesn’t feel “full”.

By denying ourselves from the spectrum of pain and emotions that we, as human beings, are meant to experience, we only connect with ourselves, others, and the world on a surface level, and restrict ourselves from living beyond our capabilities.

The surges of feelings and changes we go through in our life becomes valuable once we realize they are all necessary for our growth, and that they create a contrasting beauty in our life.
Simply put, pain is inevitable and is an integral part of our life.
As Henry emphasized: “happiness is not about reaching your destination, but it’s found in the climb to it”.

Memories of the past started flooded back and I began asking myself “Wow, where did time go? If I could go back in time, would I have done anything differently? then I realise that there is no right or wrong decision, but whatever decision that was made at the time – was the right one.

Podcast description: Life can be messy sometimes, and lately, I’ve been finding it difficult to focus amongst everything. I have had sleepless nights, as there has been constant demands from work and study, and I have to be honest, it’s all starting to exhaust me. My mind just feels like it’s constantly in a washing machine mode.

So I’ve recently discovered a book on practicing the Art of Zen; a state of focus that incorporates togetherness of body and mind. Zen is a way of being. It is a state of mind which involves dropping illusions and delusions, and seeing things without distortion created by our thoughts. In other words, seeing things for what they truly are.

I’ve only just started reading it, and so far, it’s been really insightful in helping me being at peace with things that are currently going on in my life.

Here’s a quote I’ve found in the book:

“We will find the way in whispers of truth which we experience in our everyday life, and as we follow that trail, we will find greater peace and joy throughout the day”.

On another topic, I’ve also started reading a book called “Living through a difficult moment” by Tony Nwoye. There was a particular chapter on ‘Hardship’ in which I have dissected and would like share to you guys today in my podcast audio!

Episode description: The ability of showing empathy goes far beyond than just simply having the ability to understand others’ emotions. On a deeper level, it is about defining, understanding, and reacting to the concerns and needs that underlie others’ emotional responses and reactions, and by practicing empathy, we can better relate, understand, and connect with others that will help lead us to more fulfilling relationships – in our personal life, and at work.

Understanding & Showing Empathy

Hi everyone!
What a world we’re living in right now! I hope you all are taking care of yourselves and one other through these uncertain and isolating times.

To be completely honest, I haven't been dealing with self-isolation that well myself. 
As a massive extravert, I've been struggling not being able to go out as much as I used to; however, I'm slowly beginning to enjoy my own company and dedicate my time into doing the things I love to do! How I've also been managing is through reaching out to a lot of people! Safe to say, I've been dealing with this self-isolating times through a lot of laughter and humour haha.
