'Atlantis' on Operator Radio

I really needed this. After last week watching the press conference where our government blamed youth, night- and festivalculture for the fact that their own Corona policy has been failing over and over again, I was loaded with anger and disbelief and felt deserted. I just couldn’t believe they were putting the guilt on us. We’ve all been working so hard for this moment, but our government ignored every advise to reopen clubs and festivals in phases and now here we are bearing the burden of their failure. And they dare to put the guilt on us. I can’t even begin by expressing how furious I was. 

So thankfully i have Open Source Radio which served as an outlet the days after as we hosted different talks about the subject, but I also wanted to do something more personal. Something where I could express my own frustration and after that, close it off. 

This set, recorded last Saturday on Operator, is the result of exactly that. I chose to go back to the roots of electro and techno as I felt more connected than ever with the central theme of this music: resistance. Also included tracks that I had on repeat for the last couple of days and finished with a legendary piece of music by Geraldo Vandré (make sure you look up the story behind that song). 

To end on a positive note: once again I realized the beauty of music and how it’s been keeping me up during these dark days. Big thanks to @operator-radio for offering me a spot for my musical translations and to @darko-esser for the first sample. And alright, thank you Hugo de Jonge for your’s too.

For the first episode of Atlantis we’re zooming into the underwater worlds of James Stinson and Gerald Donald, two of my absolute personal heroes whose music have seen a big amount of rereleases in the past months. A true blessing for whoever holds a connection with the Drexciyan Empire as some of their work became unaffordable. May 26th marked the launch of ‘Convergence’, the intoxicating debut release by cosmox on Rotterdam’s newest sonic powerhouse: Dehumanize Records. Led by founder Ruben de Lange, Dehumanize pushes boundaries at the intersection of sound, art, literature, and technology, showcasing thought-provoking explorations of the human-machine dynamic.
