Presenting DDP008 Los Pashminas: drifting in a sea of intentions

The pashmina is a shawl type clothing whose best use is to fashion and regulate the temperature of your body. It also shares the name of a Fribourg-based duo; consisting of Vincent Gross and Nicola Marthaler. Rather than being seen as a traditional duo, they are self-described as a support group. Supplying each other with unearthed tunes and meeting in the middle to showcase a sound derived from years of diligent music curatorship. Music affiliated veterans of the Fribourgean scene, their contributions are best observed within their various activities. For one, Nicola co-founded TRNSTN Radio, a broadcasting station whose identity is enthralled by being a place for creation, gatherings, experimentation and reflection. Vincent as the other, enriches the scene as a member of the committee of legendary statused Fri-Son, as well as having co-founded Ablette Records with his partner. 

The music behind this record is something of an ode to their eclectic music taste and blithe personality. Influences of proto-trance, early goa and nods to 2000s breakbeats as familiar references that are wrapped with a contemporary twist. A departure in sound from their previous works, the focus of this release is reflective of their heterogeneous sets; psychedelic soundscapes, downtempo oddities, soaring bass lines and care-free melodies. The sonic pallet weaved together by these two music seamsters has generated the wildest harmonic reverberations. Los Pashminas, a combination of materials to make a soft, yet sturdy piece of clothing. A suitable metaphor to underline their idea of a cathartic understanding of when to push and when to let go.  An amalgamation of their domesticated exotism of obscure music, style and comfort, pseudonymised by these two characters.

Qlons

Lausanne, fin des seventies. Les premières années de David et Claudio sont bercées quotidiennement par la platine vinyle familiale. Un métissage musical de Soul, Funk, Folklore Chilien et Disco rythme les journées de la famille italo-péruvienne.
Quelques années plus tard, les frères s'essaient à la guitare, au chant et à la basse, dans des formations New Wave, Grunge et Shoegaze. Alors adolescents, ils suivent les mouvements du Rock Indépendent des années 90, avec passion.

Peu après, David déménage à Genève et découvre les soirées Techno, Electro et Drum'n Bass dans les squats et clubs de la région. C'est la révélation. Tout s'enchaîne ensuite : introduction de boîtes à rythme dans les compositions, premiers pas dans la musique électronique et le djing pour David. Ce dernier se produit (sous le pseudo de David5), dès 2004, dans des salles et festivals comme Le Zoo, Electron Festival, Les Nuits Sonores ou la scène FMR du Paléo, entre autres.

Claudio, quant à lui, officie dans différents groupes de musique folklorique andine et projets lives (Projet5) qui l'amèneront à se produire notamment dans les festivals et scènes suisses comme le Caribana, Electrosanne ou le Rocking Chair.

En 2010, David et Claudio décident de mettre en synergie leurs expériences et influences respectives et créent QLONS (/klons/). Faisant d'abord référence à la ressemblance entre les deux frères, QLONS renvoie à l'interaction entre technologie et nature, formatage social et individualité.
QLONS est une sorte d'accident de clonage dans un monde où le conformisme est omniprésent.

Les compositions des QLONS se caractérisent donc par une confluence de toutes ces inspirations : mélange d'instruments, de samples d’ustensiles ménagers (casseroles, boites à thé, perceuses, etc) et de musique électronique. Délicat équilibre entre mélodies, ambiances hypnotiques, percussions et rythmes techno, cet assemblage minutieux vise à créer un voyage émotionnel, un roadmovie sonore.

En janvier 2012, Qlons signent, sur le label français Difu, leur premier EP "Tus Ojos", dont le track « Etrange Lundi » sera joué par Josh Wink à plusieurs reprises.

Par la suite, sortent plusieurs EP et remixes sur Difu, Society 3.0, Progrezo recordings ou Tea Boy Music, labels qui ont notamment dans leurs catalogues Unkle, Elbee Bad ou ScanX.
En 2014, QLONS participe à la compilation Tour de Traum VIII sur le label Traum Schallplatten, avec leur track Lejos. En 2019, David lance son propre label QLONS MUSIC.

Les tracks des QLONS sont playlistés par Dave Clarke, Ryan Davis et reçoivent le soutien d'artistes comme Ian Pooley, Laurent Garnier, Max Cooper, Hrdvsion, Taho, Fabrizio Maurizi, Jonny Cruz,Patrick Lindsey, Werner Niedermeier, Noah Pred, Lukas Greenberg

En parallèle, les QLONS se produisent en liveset ou djset sur les scènes de L’Audio, du D!Club, des Nuits Sonores, du festival Electron, du Terminal Club, du Tohu Bohu festival, proposant à ce jour, une sélection techno intense et orientée dancefloor.

Jazz-o-Tech is a label that draws on the rich heritage of two of the most visionary and experimental genes in music: jazz and techno. Taking inspiration from the freeform creative nature of those two musical worlds, artists on the label mix tradition with modernity, improvisation with experimentation, and create a new sound known as techno-jazz. Modern music needs to be ambitious. It must aim to deliver a musical message which is one step beyond what has already been heard. It must take you on a new musical journey into unknown dimensions and emotions. That is the Jazz-o-Tech mission.
