Italian DJ and producer Gianluca Pandullo a.k.a. I-Robots has chosen six of his favourite Electronic Emergencies tracks to reconstruct. The second part of a collaboration after a digital-only compilation of EE tracks by the founder of Opilec Music in 2020, the six rigorous reconstructions on this double 12-inch are long, luscious, and full of energy. Move Like Rays by Machinegewehr was injected with a high-energy vibe, while Das Ding's Want Need was transformed into an electro classic. Skeleton Head's queer anthem Beaten, Bloody, Bruised was given the percussion treatment, Danza Obscura by Borgie got an Italo Wave twist, and New Wave legends Chris Davis and M/A/N/O/S had their tracks worked over by dubby electro and minimal techno. Electronic Emergencies reconstructed by I-Robots consolidates the label's frontier electronic underground reputation.

Studiodue Future - Mixed by I-Robots

Italian artists I-Robots and Lorenzo LSP have put together two new mixes inspired by the legendary Turin club Studiodue, at which they were residents back in the 80s. The mixes feature an array of timeless deeptechno and eclectic electronic sounds from I-Robots' Opilec Music label, as well as one of his new and exclusive remixes.  Gianluca Pandullo, aka I-Robots, was a resident at the club - formerly a vintage cinema - from the late 80s until 1993 when it closed forever. At that time, Lorenzo LSP was also a DJ and one of the key party promoters. The club first opened in 1979 and soon became internationally renowned for its club nights, live concerts and events. It had a proudly eclectic sound that took in everything from disco, new wave, rare groove, acid, new beat and house to rock, hip hop, acid jazz, reggae, ska and dub.

The club was a foundational space for many in the city, championing black music and providing a safe space for people from the LGBTQ+ community. As a result, Studiodue became home to many vital promotions such as Lorenzo LSP (Latin Superb Posse)’s PopPlanet, House Train, Double Face and the I-Robots’ Sound Of Blackness Thursday. Over the years, many international stars visited, such as Ice-T, Todd Terry, Paul Weller, Frankie Knuckles,DJ Cash Money, Norman Jay, Pete Heller & Terry Farley, David Morales, Desmond Dekker and many more.

Studiodue helped shape several artists, including Lorenzo LSP and I-Robots, which is why the latter conceived this project and his Opilec Music label to mix up past and present influences and take them into the “Future”. 

The mix from I-Robots starts with an exclusive track that features an Italian vocal version of Kraftwerk’s ‘The Robots’ remade by Straker Commander and featuring Johnson Righeira. It’s a retro-future gem with glistening melodies and rugged arps and opens the release in authentic style. From there, the ensuing two hours take in raw analogue house, deep and soulful techno rollers, sleek minimal tracks, and percussive grooves packed with a Latin flair as well as so much more. It is a mix that very much joins the dots between then and now with music from Rhythim is Rhythim, Radio Slave, Kuniyuki Takahashi, Jordan Fields, Lello B., Danny Ocean, Federico Gandin and many more.

These two mixes are a perfect homage to one of Italy's most vital but sorely missed clubs.

Italian artists I-Robots and Lorenzo LSP have put together two new mixes inspired by the legendary Turin club Studiodue, at which they were residents back in the 80s. The mix from Lorenzo LSP is also dancefloor facing, with Italo melodies lighting up the sleek techno and retro electro. There are peak time passages with chunky drum funk and moments of richly soulful techno, all masterfully mixed and sequenced. Tunes from François K, Schaltkreis Wassermann, No More, Gene Hunt, James Kumo and I-Robots make this a serious selection.

These two mixes are a perfect homage to one of Italy's most vital but sorely missed clubs.

PREMIERE: I-Robots — Respect feat. Kathy Brown (Alex Neri Remix) [Opilec Music]

Whatever this label does, there is always a real sense of history and culture, which is confirmed again here. 'Respect' was written by Otis Redding in 1965 and became a global hit and signature song for Aretha Franklin in 1967. But in 1988, Adeva changed its key and flipped it into a garage house classic that now gets remade by I-Robots featuring the legendary Kathy Brown with The It/Jungle Wonz man and Chicago master Harry Dennis also appearing.

Their Paradise Garage inspired version opens up and is eight glorious minutes of elastic, floor-filing and dazzling disco house. The bassline is tough, the vocals packed with attitude, and the synth work brings real light. It's a timeless track that brings any dance floor to its knees.

Alex Neri is a true legend from Planet Funk and Kamasutra and is head of Tenax Recordings and Wildflower Records in his native Italy. His take is awash with majestic melodies and shimmering synths that lift you off your feet. The house drums are heavyweight, and the bassline is a real standout that takes us back to the future.

Atjazz is a longtime Afro and jazzy deep house musician from the UK with a fulsome back catalogue and a unique signature sound. His remix is late night and deep, with woozy chords and a seductive vocal perfect for those intimate moments. He also serves up a dub, instrumental and Acapella, so there is something for all situations.

Founded in 2007 by I-Robots, aka Gianluca Pandullo, the Opilec Music label has provided a home to an eclectic range of quality electronic music from disco to techno, Italo to krautrock and everything in between. The imprint has released music from artists such as Giorgio Moroder, Derrick May, Juan Atkins, The Units, No More, Klein & M.B.O., N.O.I.A., Daniele Baldelli and many others, with each record carefully overseen by the hugely experienced I-Robots.

The sixth volume of the ‘We Are Opilec!’ series is once again entirely curated by I-Robots, and features a cast of fellow artists from Turin, Italy, with the title, ‘Augusta Taurinorum’, a reference to the Latin name of the renowned region, harking back to the Roman Empire. Turin was also Italy’s first capital. The album covers boundless musical ground between Eoni’s first and last ambient tracks, featuring two house and techno fusions from electronic music duo [ MONOTONOISE ], trippy slow-burners from Opilec Music veterans Patrick di Stefano & Simo Nex, as well as tracky house from Turin club-legends Moreno Pezzolato & Federico Gandin. Frontman of famous rock group Subsonica, Samuel also joins the compilation alongside longtime collaborator Pisti, together they form production project & record label Krakatoa and deliver ‘Robottino’, a high-energy bomb primed for the dancefloor.

The compilation album hosts five exclusive reworks by I-Robots, including Lello B.’s ‘Hall of Mirrors’, which in turn is a cover of Kraftwerk’s iconic 1977 hit of the same name. The landmark track gets a club-ready makeover, complete with robust drums, big bass and vocal snippets of the original’s evocative lyrics. I-Robots also revisits Straker Commander’s ‘Face To Face - Heart To Heart’, which features a cover of the original The Twins lyrics sung by legendary Italian singer Johnson Righeira. This blend of modern and old-school serves as an ideal set closer or emotive peak-time tool, once again showcasing the variety of this high-grade compilation. Additionally, the LP features an unreleased version of I-Robots’ 2004 track ‘Frau’, expertly remixed by Obi Baby & Lorenzo LSP.

This album chronicles the rich dance music history being made in the Italian peninsula, and shows the extent of talent coming out of the country right now. The label will celebrate the release of the volume with a party titled ‘DON’T BELIEVE THE HYPE’ at Turin club Bunker, the footage of which will then be turned into a short film. The Virgin Mary serving as the compilation’s artwork is a piece by RKF Honorfarm, an art project known for its colourful religious symbols signifying the eternal struggle of good versus evil.

USA deep house master Jus-Ed strikes again with two I-Robots reworks exclusively produced for Opilec Music and releasing on his birthday in 2024.

The friendship of the two started years ago when Opilec Music boss I-Robots immedialy recognized Ed's talent and how relevant his UQ label material was, since then they have been firm friends.

Everything started in Turin during an event back in early 2000, and they met again in the city last October 2023 during the Opilec Music/Turin Dancefloor Express "Don't Believe The Hype" party when they decided to release something together.

"House Madic" I-Robots Remix totally flips the Chicago style vision of the original version into a spacey acid house killer... Special vocals samples are coming from a rare original afro american 1970 political speech record from I-Robots serious vinyl collection.

"Start Of Something New" is a solid Chicago soulful deep house tune with Ed's vocals that I-Robots decided to maximise, makin his journey much longer...

"Opilec" (1917) is a story by Josef Čapek, a writer and cubist painter, brother of Karel Čapek, the man who is supposed to invent the term "robot" that originally meant "servant". From this important etymology, that truly inspired all Isaac Asimov literature, comes Opilec Music by Gianluca "I-Robots" Pandullo's fervent mind.

Opilec Music is a label project deeply built on all Asimov way of thinking about how technology is not an enemy of human genre but a help and a real and useful extension of our mind. The robot is our friend and the music too. Opilec Music feels contaminated by old school Disco, Chicago House & Detroit Techno, the early 80's Italo & Synth, Electro & Cosmic Disco and by the seminal Krautrock & Electronic musical genres that differently as strongly have conditioned the history and world dance conception.
