O Yuki Conjugate have been active since 1982. Initially embracing Post Punk currents they evolved into early pioneers of Fourth World music and still very active have never stopped evolving. In the mid 90s their music briefly crossed over with the fringes of the club scene as their “Equator” album became something of an ambient classic. Signed to ultra cult Dutch label Staalplaat, a label as far removed from the club world as one might imagine, they nevertheless decided to release a club friendly 12” with a remix from Charles Webster that became an E Music classic. Perhaps the least known of his remixes this ten minute epic take on their ambient masterpiece will melt the hardest heart. 

The original Staalplaat 12” is almost impossible to find so Optimo Music is delighted to make it available again in a slightly reconfigured version. Three divine Sunchemical takes from OYC and a Charles Webster remix that a quarter of a century later sounds as if it might just have been created. Comes in a full colour sleeve designed by Andrew Beltran. Mastered by James Savage.

Mostly known for her releases and Live Sets as Part of the Duo INIT. Beside that she’s co-running the Label R.I.O. together with Markus Woernle and Benedikt Frey. This Mix gives an insight in DALO’s music taste a fine line between club and home listening as well as a mix of upcoming releases and old favorites of hers.

The moss-covered trees stretched high up into the sky; standing tall amidst the lingering fog that adorned the space with an air of magic and enchantment. Throughout the forest hidden pathways and charming wooden bridges meandered in different directions, bordered by plants and foliage in shades of vibrant green. Where they led was a mystery, you'd have to follow them in order to find out.

The Rain In The Trees marks Graintable's third meditative album for Ransom Note Records, following Herons and Universal Ash in 2018 and 2019 respectively. Impregnated with the sonic essence of the Pacific Northwest rainforests, the soothing ambient and drone sounds on his newest outing are entirely produced live via Graintable’s signature analog synth improvisations.

The title track is a blissful contemplation of the surrounding nature, recreating the introspection achieved when walking alone in the forest. Late-night sessions in the studio brought about unique ambient compositions, impregnated with the sonic essence of the Pacific Northwest - tracks of mind-boggling ambient, drone and synth that caress the listener’s ears like waves at the end of the Columbia River. These soothing sounds conjure up lonely places amid a vertiginous tempest, where the sampling of noise crescendos and softness of sounds come together to accompany the dream synths wrapped up in a cloud-like fleece.

Whilst his previous R$N release Universal Ash was a reflection on decay and loss, The Rain In The Trees is indeed like a phoenix rising from those same ashes. It touches on themes of rebirth and finding your way. Like new trees sprouting in the aftermath of a forest fire - which was often occurring in the Pacific Northwest during the recording of these soundscapes.

The title, 'The Rain In The Trees', is borrowed from a book of poems by W.S. Merwin. It’s saying ‘yes’ to creating art that’s deeply influenced by nature. Merwin was writing poetry inspired by the rainforest in Hawaii and similarly, here Graintable is making music that’s influenced by a different climatic region, the one of the rainforests in the Pacific Northwest.

Aggelos first approached Lurid Music with the idea for this project a few months ago. We agreed on one condition, that all proceeds be donated to refugee causes, like we did with his Black Sea EP which supported the Syrian refugee crisis. When Russia invaded Ukraine, we decided our focus had to be helping the Ukrainian refugees who were forced to leave their homes in search of safe havens abroad.

We discussed this with most contributors to the project and the consensus was that donations should strictly go to humanitarian groups and not any armament funds. There were also some thoughts about helping conflict-affected peoples in other parts of the world but we decided it was too much to tackle for a relatively small project like this one.
Therefore, donations stemming from the sales of this release will be distributed to the following humanitarian groups currently active in Ukraine or neighboring countries welcoming refugees:

Originally released on cassette exactly one year ago, though now remastered here for vinyl, D.K expresses his imaginary interpretation of the music used in Vietnam’s ancestral/spiritual possession rituals called 'Hau Dong'. 
It’s a ceremony in 5 parts, whereby spirit mediums dance on each song to honour the mystical goddesses of Forest, Water and Heaven. 
Whilst dancing during these rituals, the Medium's appear to transform themselves into different characters - changing their personalities, as if various spirits have entered their bodies.
