On Opulence’s second release the label welcomes Grammy nominated artist James Teej with his “The Only Constant EP”. Inspired by his budding years DJing, James revisits his early house influences and delivers two powerful cuts of disco infused grooves laced with an overall contemporary touch.

The first track “The Only Constant Is Change” is a highly infectious dance floor number reminiscent of classic filtered disco house, arranged with a patient and contemporary restraint. The track’s hypnotic and repetitive nature draws the listener in, and keeps the attention throughout with subtle changes that slowly grow to a tasteful and rewarding climax.

On remix duties Opulence has invited Apollonia’s House music legend Dan Ghenacia who delivers a slick deep house rework that keeps the vibes intact of the original with the French artist’s signature groovy machine touch. Already road tested over the summer at DC10, Dan’s remix helps bring the original to a place closer to the club’s dance floor.

The 3rd and final song is “Life Goes On”, a grooving disco infused classic deep house cut that features No Regular Play’s Greg Paulus on trumpet. The song perfectly blends the sounds of yesterday with a modern touch and feel, and provides an uplifting soundtrack for any dance floor, especially those magic moments outdoors on the beach.

Once again, James continues to show his passion and diversity in his music with this expertly crafted EP that will surely be a welcomed addition to any house lover’s record collection.

‘Kiss Kiss’, in its original form, pairs up chunky drums and choppy female vox, as Jansons injects his trademark ‘feelgood’ vibes into the groove with an industrious rhythm and funky tone.  On the ‘Filter Mix’, the crisp swinging beats are filtered elements evoke shades of the finest Chicago/French house tracks from over the years, and a great alternate version to compliment the original mix.

Accompanying track ‘Sometimes’ forages a deeper path; a hypnotic groove lays the foundation for the vocal dialogue to ride over a percussive workout, which dips and rises in all the right places.  A brooding bassline and filtered riff provide the pulsing rhythm that lets the vocal soar!

INxec and Matt Tolfrey turn in one of the hypnotic builders that have made them such a formidable partnership. This is a track to rally the floor behind it and captivate them as it unfolds. Looping tightly, ‘In Excess’ welcomes in sweeping melodies with clinical fills and sets them off with precise percussion. Subtly building and announcing layer upon layer with another flourish; this is a real burner for attentive audiences.

Waifs and Strays return with their warbled vocals and strutting rhythms for another crack at the peak time. Bringing an infinitely elastic bass line to the fore and letting the forementioned vocals unfold, ‘Heartbreak’ has an immediacy that will give it considerable mileage. Think 80s synth pop swapping notes with the funky drummer at The Marcy Hotel and you are close. ‘Military Buzz’ is a light and bouncy number with jazzy chords that illuminate tight rhythms. With an inquisitiveness that hints back at the early days of Leftroom, Matthew Burton and Kate Rathod probe the floor, sending wave after wave of rolling sub bass through the room. Focusing on the subtleties of dance floor dynamics in enticing fashion, this is a smooth tool that has enough dirt under its nails to make it a versatile weapon. That each of the cuts here will find a disco to work is an understatement. The special exclusive EP release gathers behind it influences and intentions in equal measure and opens the next chapter for the imprint in blistering form.
