Burning Man. A celebration of art, openness, inclusivity, music, and friendship. I found community, bonding, forward thinking music, endless inspiration, feelings of awe, and a total loss of the ego.

Energy drives everything. Interactions, visual art, sound, comfort, attraction, fear. On the Playa, we are stripped down to primal feelings. In difficult moments, friends or strangers are there to help.

I didn’t use wifi for 8 days and refused to use my phone aside from taking a few videos, a proper reset mentally that led to new insights about myself, my career, and the meaning of existence.

More than anything, I rediscovered the meaning of my career and life through the destruction of any last ego that was left. As a DJ, it’s not about “me.” My job is to create meaningful connections on the dancefloor. To spread feelings of love and presence, create unity regardless of your beliefs, appearance, and background. To bring together both hippies and influencers, the left and the right, all genders, sexualities, and races. We are all equal. To make the world a better, more unified place via this platform I am grateful to have.

When I was about to take the stage, there was a massive dust storm—you couldn’t even see 2 feet in front of your face it was so intense. When the dust settled down a bit near the halfway point, there were so many thousands of people in the crowd I couldn’t see where it ended.

I played very hard and fast for the occasion… which is thousands of people going crazy in a dust storm.

You can feel the raw energy—I wanted to give the original recording even though it’s a little rough around the edges. 

This set (and Burning Man as a whole) was one of the best experiences of my life. I’m so grateful to have shared my music to such an incredible, passionate crowd. A special thanks to opulent temple for the unbelievable production and the crowd for the insane energy.

I played at 1AM after Syd Gris and loved looking out to the sea of friends and dear ones dressed in their fabulous whites. After 2 years and near misses of talking to Skrillex’s team about playing at OT, we were excited to see it finally happen this year. The fact Diplo was in the mix with him was all the more exciting.

They bought their own tickets, asked for no special treatment and came out, and despite being scheduled back to back to play separately, played a 2+ hour awesome tag set as ‘Jack U’ of infectious excellent eclectic party music. People had an amazing time. They were super friendly, down to earth and totally classy when they were at OT. 

Let THAT be the dominant narrative of them coming to play Burning Man. 2 music lovers who shared what they do well with thousands of other happy music lovers.

2008 was my first trip the Playa, I was submerged in the music, art, costumes, creativity and the amount of effort that hard work, passion and love can build. The majority of my time was spent out in front of Opulent Temple that year, under the fire, dancing in the dust, seeing, hearing and feeling things that were never imaginable until then. 
It was a truly inspiring and life changing experience, so much so that many years later, here we still are. Still building, still giving, still sharing and still dancing, just as better versions of ourselves. 
I couldn't be any more proud to be a part of this family and be able to call you all my friends.

 The 15th annual Opulent Temple white party was hosted by Carl Cox and crew during the debut of the incredible new stage for Playground 2017 - Arrival. Featuring an arena with flying saucer flamethrowers, lasers, lights and an incredible JBL sound system. 

I was sure to thank Carl for his awe inspiring gift before he handed over the controls to this stand-out peak experience I won't soon forget.  

There were lasers beams, fire poofs and the familiar orange glow of faces at all the drops. I felt right at home.

The set features tunes by Drezo, Andruss, NuKid and others. Full of tension, futuristic robot voices and references to outer space.

With a solar eclipse ushering in new beginnings, Billy and Elsa Seal were part of the team that produced the camp Opulent Chill at Burning Man 2017. A space to relax and recharge, providing zen experience through music, fire and vibe. The co-creators opened the stage on Monday night sharing their interpretation of the soundscape for what Opulent Chill was all about. 

Thirty minute sets each, Elsa begins the hour with an Alan Watts sample on music stating "To be able to enjoy it(music), we have got to live each moment of the playing and listen to it as if it were the only thing important to listen to."

For the unexposed, the Opulent Temple started as a Large Scale Art & Music theme camp at the annual Burning Man arts festival that takes place in the Black Rock desert of Nevada the week before Labor Day. We throw nightly parties showcasing underground, world class electronic dance music in a setting of art and creation we've made ourselves. Our community and fund raising events are based in San Francisco, and though our production is associated with the BM event, you can find us in many settings wherever there's fun to be had.

The Vision of the Opulent Temple is to gift a space for sacred dance to world class dance music. It is our intention to create the space for peak experience, community development, and inspiration that serves as a road map for what's possible in the so called 'default world.' The effort is self generated by the tribe, ie., no one gets paid to create our production. On the contrary, key members put a lot of their own time, effort, and sometimes money all year around to bring it back every year.

It's not just about partying.

It is our view that social change will not happen without individuals doing their part to elevate our collective spiritual center of gravity. Thus, it is our responsibility to nudge our own evolution to catch up with the outpaced growth of technology without the soul getting left behind. It's within this community of creative seekers that coalesces around the playa tribes that leaders must emerge to help steer this nation and this world towards a better day.

To create a space for Sacred Dance is to create a playground for connection with the Eternal, but in our case, still infused with the need for social action in the real world. Big beats and community are the launching point for insight to remind us there is a point to evolution. Transcendence, and nothing less. It might sound like hippy New Age shit, but in this case that doesn't mean it isn't true...

The Musical Vision
We're obviously firm believers in the beat, the transcending properties of mind blowing electronic dance music (EDM), both to open the heart and make the ass shake depending on one's preference and the moment. We value diversity in the range of world class artists that play our camp, as well as the camp dj's who build it so get to play what they feel. Most nights are fairly cohesive unto themselves, but day to day it can be all over the place. Our past line ups speak for themselves.

We'll see you in the sweet spot, under the stars...
