Exactly one year after his 2020 release entitled Dunklewissenschaft, DVS NME returns with a collection of new tracks that were produced between late 2020 and early 2021. This 25-track album is another obvious thematic tribute, only this time he chose to pay homage to the writing of the socialist revolutionary Karl Marx. Every song title is a nod to the German philosopher's economic and political theory. Even the album cover borrows directly from Marx, re-adapting the original cover of the 1848 pamphlet entitled 'The Communist Manifesto'.

This album, as with the last, relies heavily on the sounds of classic Electro machines like Mono/Poly, MS-20, SH-101, Jupiter-8, Juno-106, SH-2, System 100, Juno 60, JX-3P, TB-303, Polysix, TR-606, OB-8, TR-808, ARP Odyssey, as well as some contemporary additions to his studio like Hydrasynth, System 8, Novation Peak, Minilogue, SE-02, and Microkorg.

DVS NME is the man behind the weekly radio show/daily blog called 'Dark Science Electro' and has been a dedicated contributor for the Electro community for the last 11 years. He shares his love of Electro music by posting Electro-affiliated news, art, mixes, albums, memes, concerts, tracks, gear, and more. This album is available for $15 USD

EPM Podcast 142 comes from ghetto-tech, booty, hip-hop, electro, house and techno producer, Detroit’s Filthiest. Detroit’s Filthiest (Julian Shamou) began DJing as a teenager in Detroit in the mid-90s and has gone on to produce over 100 records under multiple aliases including DJ Nasty, Digitek, 313 Bass Mechanics and these days, Detroit's Filthiest. Here for our 142nd podcast we get Detroit’s Filthiest undiluted as Julian shakes it up with new releases ‘Werewolf’ and ‘All White Buffs’ amongst the many rump-shakin’ anthems in his cannon.

Originally born in Baghdad, Shamou and his family moved to Detroit in the summer of 1983, just before the dawn of techno. Despite growing up in Detroit during the ‘80s and ‘90s, Shamou never planned on a career in electronic music.  "All the music that I liked, you could only get on 12" records; they wouldn't make it on CD," he says of his early record collecting days. "I just wanted to have this music.  I was buying vinyl for a year before I bought a $99 turntable.  A year after I bought that turntable, I bought a drum machine and thought, this is more exciting.  I want to make music."

Shamou soon became a part of the city's emerging Ghettotech scene in the late 90s, working primarily under the alias DJ Nasty. In 2002 he released 'Pass Out' under his 313 Bass Mechanics alias for Ed DMX's Breakin Records.  Fast-forward to 2015 and platinum selling UK house dons, Disclosure sample it for their massive ‘Bang That’ track.

Today, Detroit's Filthiest continues to push boundaries with his music production.  Refusing to stick within just one genre he makes hip hop beats, bouncing electro bombs, smooth house cuts, warehouse techno and booty shaking tracks as his Motor City Electro Company imprint (MCEC), which celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2019, continues to channel his creative output and Detroit’s Filthiest becomes his main production alias.

As well as releases on MCEC, he has also released on the likes of Defected (with the smash ‘Handprint’), Casa Voyager, Bass Agenda, Philthtrax, Defrostatica, RotterHague Records and many more.

Detroit’s Filthiest’s new electro track ‘Werewolf’ features on ‘EPM20 – EP2’ alongside new cuts from The Advent and Zein Ferreira, Carl Finlow and Modulator AKA Freddie Fresh.

OpziO, aka Matt Davidson had this to say about himself and his mix...
"My first memory of music was from around 13 years old, and sifting through a stack of early 80’s 12 inch records on loan from a DJ friend. I became fixated with the electronic beats and breakdowns buried in the extended versions of New Order, Donna Summer, Human League and Freeez tracks. I can still remember being profoundly affected by the sparse, raw uncompromising funk from the drum machines. I would tape and loop those beats right there, trying to create...something! When electro  - specifically Planet Rock - arrived, it was like I had found home. Acid house and Detroit techno made sense to me on the first listen too, like discovering the missing link. Music based around machines, but destined for the dancefloor. 

So when I had my first paycheck it went on a Roland drum machine and I haven’t stopped since. Over the last 20 odd years, my studio has gone from hardware to software and back to vintage hardware again, and my taste in sound has regressed too, going back to that pioneer spirit from the early producers.
Recently I have released acid tracks on Western Panorama Recordings, and an electro remix on Vocode Records. On the DJ side I am a resident for Dark Knights based in South West UK.

This mix deliberately disregards genres, and instead looks towards producers that take music back to that original style. Acid, electro and techno spanning over 20 years, yet all cut from the same cloth - boxes and machines upfront with minimal production gloss. This is most definitely a producers mix, plenty of my own tracks and more mixtape than bigroom bangers, but I hope it makes for a good listen and gives you that flavor of original independent electronic music."
