"  An artist with a growing reputation within the underground dance fraternity, Sebastian Sellares makes his Meanwhile debut with his "Dunes at Dawn" EP.

After a 2018 debut for PHW Elements, Sebastian Sellares has made increasingly sizeable waves with his smooth and unique musical style. Already seeing his music signed to an array of high-profile imprints including onedotsixtwo, UV and Or Two Strangers, Proton Music's "Zen State / Jinsei" was a further notable highlight in October 2020 including remixes from Matias Chilano and Bedrock's Nick Muir.

The title-track opener is a gloriously atmospheric offering that builds gently over a rhythmic foundation of rolling top-line groove and pounding beat. Filtered pads soon enter the fray followed by atmospheric birdsong effects and rippling arpeggiated synth line that resonate with the "Dunes at Dawn" title. Rising to a spine-tingling zenith at the mid-point alongside deep, captivating bassline, the second half continues the rich melodic collage creating a sumptuous start to the EP.

Continuing the powerful rhythmic basis of the opener, "The Stars Above" scintillates with its chugging rhythmic vibe and syncopated bassline pattern. Evolving through subtle percussive urgency, dreamlike pads float across the mid-range beside steam-powered white noise waves, before intricately programmed synth plucks complete the foundations. Before long, undulating arpeggios glitter in delayed patterns as counterpoint phrasing adds emotion and guile to create a contemplative offering.

"Nocturne" completes the musical triptych, revelling in a subtle melodic hypnotism that blends acid-tinged loop with flowing analogue motifs. Panning the stereo spectrum with plucked phrases, a magnificent combination of counterpoint melodies rise and fall across a nine-minute magnum opus that results in another string to Sellares' increasingly powerful bow.

Madloch's Sound Avenue imprint rounds out the month of June by showcasing new interpretations Nopi's ‘Where To Go'. Released in October of 2020 as part of the Ukrainian artist's ‘Where To Go' EP, the lead selection anchored the four track showcase with its hopeful vocal phrasing and emotive musicality. Supported by organic and progressive house DJs alike, Sound Avenue now looks to bring new life to the track by inviting Domingo +, Eric Lune and Tristan Case & Tom Barlow to re-imagine it for 2022's summer season. 

Also making a welcome return to Sound Avenue with the second interpretation of ‘Where To Go' is Eric Lune. The long-standing Belgian imprint served as the landing spot for Eric's first ever release, a contribution to the label's popular Summer Sampler series in 2018. Building a bond with the label going forward, the Aussie artist delivered the well received EP projects ‘Embers' and ‘Dreaming Home' in 2019 and 2021 respectively. Also calling Balance Music, Plattenbank and Proton Music home, Eric now brings his melodic mastery back to Sound Avenue with a gorgeous take on ‘Where To Go'. From warm, rhythmic beginnings comes redolent themes and heartfelt sonics. Gentle flutters build and balmy atmospheres emerge, perfectly setting stage for incandescent vocals and creamy arps to forge a path into the break. Fuzzed out textures create moments of hope and reflection as the centrepiece evolves, before smoothly segueing into a thumping finale which is sure to send people home with a smile.

Both huge names in the progressive house genre, Alex O’Rion & Ezequiel Arias join forces for a debut on Meanwhile as the GMJ & Matter led imprint celebrates its 34th release with “Solis”. Two further solo tracks from Alex O’Rion complete the musical picture.

An artist at the centre of the underground dance scene for almost 20 years and with over 400 production credits to his name, Alex O’Rion has been a Meanwhile regular, most notably with his landmark four-track “Echium” EP in May 2021. A trio of remixes for Rich Curtis and GMJ & Matter themselves bookend a powerful portfolio on the label. Similarly, Ezequiel Arias has found himself at the vanguard of the modern progressive house movement with his standout work for a host of blue-chip imprints including Anjunadeep, Sudbeat Music and Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden. Now making his Meanwhile debut, Arias joins forces with Alex O’Rion as the duo showcase “Solis”.

The headline track is thus a powerful reminder of the combined talent of the Dutch and Argentinean pairing as “Solis” powers forward with chest-thumping kick and sublime bassline groove. Clave percussive flourishes add a summery vibe to proceedings as a filtered synth line gradually comes to the fore, mirroring the bassline foundation. Gently evolving across the 6-minute piece, a free-flowing synth line wends its way across the melodic collage while a beatless breakdown creates the perfect opportunity for a variation in the cadenced chord progression. Hitting its stride once more in the second half, “Solis” is a timely reminder of the silky-smooth skills and unrivalled craftsmanship of the talented duo.

“Pluvia” sees Alex O’Rion back on solo duties as a chunky beat and swung offbeat hi-hats create the perfect environment for crackling effects and pitched synths to flow in sparkling patterns against a backdrop of white-noise risers. Evolving with ease, subtle melodies play off each other in fluid rivulets of sound. Metallic wind chimes echo in random patterns as a smorgasbord of sound effects give the sonic impression of falling rain in a sparking track.

The final piece finds “Sericum” proving an apposite title as a smooth-roasted bass groove sits below deep kick and cavernous sub-bass pattern. A shuffling hi-hat top line provides subtle urgency as a mellifluous synth line flows like honey as the track reaches its mid-point. A reverb-soaked lead line adds harmonic variation as a vibrant breakdown creates the perfect moment of reflection. The rhythmic melange once again hits its mark again in the second half, accompanied by the array of opulent melodic elements introduced earlier in the piece.

Danny Bonnici and Luke Chable are very familiar with each other's studios. In 2003, they collaborated to produce the ebullient classic ‘Ride,’ arguably the standout release in underground dance that year. Almost a decade passed before they rekindled their partnership, resulting in ‘Colours,’ a delightful 2010 release that wears its whimsical heart on its charming sleeve. Fast forward to 2024, and Balance is proud to re-release this gem with a fresh round of remixes, featuring Dutch star Alex O’Rion and a breakbeat re-rub by Danny Bonnici.

If ‘Ride’ epitomized care-free mid-00’s prog, ‘Colours’ is imbued with the spirit of 2010. It’s a radiant drive atop a sunlit melody and kaleidoscopic tones that will embed itself deep into your psyche. Drawing inspiration from the more vogue-ish releases of that year, the brilliance of ’Colours’ lies in its light-hearted clarity: a stonking drum section and a melodic motif that lingers in you like a pleasant memory. Today, ‘Colours’ feels as nostalgic as it's vital; a love letter to a time we never knew would pass us by, or at worst, an invocation of a pre-Covid era that seems a million miles away.

Danny Bonnici revisits his breakbeat roots with a delightful re-rub, paying homage to an era when progressive breaks reigned king. Skittering snares and shuffling hats play off each other; the percussion contrasting sharply against the consistently moving bellow of the Hoover-like bass. Keeping the original melody front centre, it eventually explodes post-breakdown into a dizzying arpeggiated variation. If you want to know why Danny Bonnici is considered a breakbeat don, look no further.

Dutchman Alex O’Rion extends his streak of platinum productions with a refined update. By using warmer tones to soften the edges, the energy is burnished with more tranquil textures. The melody is framed by warm risers and smart fx that engage in playful interaction, whilst a casual bass line dances in complete flow with the melody. All the parts add up to a joyous progressive union - a beautiful organic dance that never feels contrived.

‘Temporary Sanity’ first appeared on the critically acclaimed ‘Time’ (LF017) album by Guy Mantzur & Sahar Z, and has remained a standout favourite since the LP was released back in November 2014. Now, Cornucopia has breathed a new life into the track with a beautifully melodic, subtle, sun-drenched percussive remix.

Already a huge track for John Digweed, who loved it so much, he featured it on his recent ‘Live In Montreal’ (Bedrock) release. Since then, the demand has been steadily growing for Cornucopia’s remix to be released in its own right, so at last, here we have it in all it’s glory on Lost & Found.

Once in a while an album appears that is distinctly special and has the ability to captivate audiences on a global scale, breaking through simplistic genre boundaries and uniting people through its exploration of the psyche of modern electronic dance music. Guy Mantzur & Sahar Z’s ‘Time’ project was such an album, and it remains as captivating and enthralling today.

Damien Spencer joins the Pro B Tech Music family with a three-track release called ‘Try’. This EP includes a Martin Gardoqui & Matias Larrosa remix on one side and a Niceshot remix on the other.

The original mix, ‘Try’ comes in on a positive vibe with major tones and chilled vocals that blend with a progressive house musical construction. The first remix goes darker and in a low-tempo beat marked by deep-techy synth leads. Niceshot´s remix is defined by an atmospheric sound that gives body to this dreamy and uplifting track.

'Two Argentinian duos, Analogs Jungs and Oliver & Tom, pair up to produce one catchy single, 'Landscape'. The track's name speaks for itself - a vast a contemplative landscape of infinite groove.

Analog Jungs is a musical project from Córdoba, Argentina founded by Claudio Cornejo and Gustavo Ruarte. They have a style that blends Progressive, Tech and Deep House sounds with great versatility and ideal rhythms for the dance floor.

'Music transcends us all,' that's what Oliver & Tom is all about. Composed by Andrés Martynowicz and Mauricio Infiesta, the duo's symbiosis originated in their childhood. Growing up together, they shared diverse musical experiences in rock and pop bands, where Andrés excelled in the electric guitar and Mauricio in the acoustic drums. A few years later, both continued their studies now choosing the piano and synthesizer as their main instruments of production and giving rise to the creation of the electronic music group 'Oliver & Tom.'

Spanish producer Agatha Pher contributes to the calm and memorable vibe, defining the single's clear and beautiful horizons. She always creates beautiful music, and this remix is no exception.

To close out the EP, Brazilian producer Rigooni, known for his beautiful track 'Dreamed Numbers' signed on Nick warren's Balance compilation, is on remix duty and create a bouncy/proggy sound.
