Despina was trying to write a follow-up to their 2022 record ‘Gravity Games’ on Kindergarten Records as they fell into a deep depression, during a harsh New York winter and against a backdrop of escalating legislative attacks on trans people in the USA. In the struggle to express themselves through music while maintaining their usual exuberant voice, they found a darker musical path, and ‘Fire From Heat’ is the result of exploring this path.

The title ‘Fire From Heat’ comes from the expression “heat from fire, fire from heat,” an expression that is used by the trans community in voice training and that was popularized by YouTuber Z from TransVoiceLessons. At the same time as Despina searched for their voice as a trans, non-binary person in a country continuously stripping the rights of their trans siblings, they found an alternate, musical voice through the extensive use of human and non-human voices. This dichotomy and the interplay of both voices became a conceptual thread that runs through the entire record. These voices are countered by rhythmic constraints, undulating cyclical grooves, sinister basslines, and interruptive structures that create a delicate interplay between the imagined speaker and an idealized dancer.

MLTMX has established itself as the place to go for newcomers and anyone looking for music and mixes inbetween the genre drawers. This comes through well with the compilation. It is a refreshing collection of diverse electronic music that somehow takes place in a world of its own. Despite the differences in genres, there is a distinct vibe that has characterized MLTMX so far.

androgienia's journey into DJing began in Seoul, and the experimentality of the South Korean scene continues to shape her hybrid style. Intense and defiant, her sets are dark, queer, euphoric and enticing - driven by cheeky references on top of powerful basslines and speedy tempos, you will hear her blending experimental sounds with industrial and hard dance elements. She is no stranger to relentless rhythms, but in the end will startle you with her surprisingly soft touch. As an artist and performer, she contributes to the local art scene in Warsaw and is also a member of the queer-feminist initiative Kem and the trans non-binary DJ collective @dek0nstrukt.

Influenced by the ephemerality of performance art and queer identity, oscillating between chaos and sensuality. DiV4’s approach merges rapid, dynamic elements, sharp stabs, and dreamy soundscapes with a lively mix of Latinx influences, highlighting the rhythmic depth of drums. They are no stranger to fast-paced Techno and Hardcore postgenres as well as Deconstructed Club. It’s a vibrant, energetic, and captivating mix that evokes a sense of escapism, mirroring their own journey of gender fluidity. 

As an artist/performer, they focus on sustaining a dialogue with the recipient by creating collective activities, placing the artist and the audience on equal grounds. They are a member of @dek0nstrukt and @poise_angels collectives, a founder of DEKONSTRUKT event series.

HARD DANCE 055: ANI KLANG

Our goal is to establish a platform for queer DJs, VJs, visual and conceptual artists to promote their practices and explore the idea of a safer space, from the perspective of intersecting club and art scenes. We aim to celebrate uniqueness, glitch, deconstruction, and flux, all while promoting diversity within the club music scene. Our events bring people together and ask them to challenge their preconcieved ideas and diversify their interpretations. 

DEKONSTRUKT is formed by 3 queer/trans/non-binary artists, whose practices have grown to include DJing as a form of collective liberation. androgienia @3p1c3n3, DiV4 @div44444 and KAROLINDA @karoleanda represent a triple threat of the polish underground scene, with its multiple layers and diverse manifestations.

As Oramics, we are a feminist artist platform created in 2017 aiming to support women, queer and non-binary people in the electronic music industry. 

Oramics is also dedicated to supporting regionally underrepresented artists by amplifying the voices from the eastern european electronic music scene and examining inequality within the industry.
