Just my voice and an acoustic guitar. One of the first original songs I wrote and recorded many years ago. I might go back to this format for a minute.

Walk On

Stacy Sutherland describes a mystic vision he had during an acid trip while on stage when he was part of the band the 13th Floor Elevators. Stacy played lead guitar in the band. The  Original interview is from May of 1977. He eerily predicts his death at the end. Stacy died at his home in Center Point, Texas, after being accidentally shot by his wife during a domestic dispute a few months after this interview. I recorded this audio from the interview and dubbed it over an analogue synth track that I had been working on with an arpeggiated sequence on up/down and ran that through a JOYO atmosphere…it somehow fit very well and even cut off right where he talks about his third insight. If you've never heard of Roky Erickson and The 13th Floor Elevators I suggest you educate yourself. The founders and originators of psychedelic rock. I felt I needed to put this out there and the process of creating this piece was oddly organic and familiar yet strange in a way, it made itself... either way, enjoy.

Mystic Visions with Stacy Sutherland of the 13th Floor Elevators...

I recorded this with two condenser mics. First one is mainly capturing the analog drum machine. The other is for my synth and guitar. Microphones are about a foot away from my PA and guitar amp, picking up live track creation. No pedals on the synth this go- just a single note on hold with some modulation, guitar here is my current daily player- Paranmoral Toronado being ran through a Caline High Chief dual channel OD Im mainly using this as a boost here with just a touch of drive then into the sonicake multi modulation THEN into my line 6 which I added the on board reverb, chorus, and sweep echo. So just a ton of modulation on a slightly overdriven hum-bucker guitar that is creating the sonic anomalies here.

Not sure I remember how I layered the sounds here. Definitely using my Yamaha digital synth on an electric organ patch and my MiniBrute analog, and perhaps a plug in as well.  I don't think there are any effects pedals on this. Just one man playing and recording 3 different types of synth.

Into the Sea

9 roads lead home, save the toads. This was recorded over three days. We have four main tracks. percussion and rhythm guitar on the first, synths on the second and third both using digital string emulations and another guitar on the third panned all the way to the left. Best enjoyed on stereo monitors or headphones or any speaker set with a quality low end to get the full effect and depth. guitar pedal rig is a dual overdrive with only one side engaged pretty much as a boost-volume and tone rolled almost all the way back, into a Vox bucket brigade style delay into a line6 75W with a celestial speaker on clean. All recorded live on 2 condenser microphones. Very much still experimenting with recording quality and panning guitars. Had some difficulty with sound after exporting this track from DAW as every time I sent this from DAW to music it was compressing very badly and lowering the volume and over all quality and then once again when put onto the Soundcloud platform. I believe I figured out a way around this through my download and playback settings, but this version is still very compressed but I believe it captures the essence of what I was going for here.

Made this beat on my percussion synth. Its a blues beat on a jungle kit with the BPM brought way down and a low end boost and reverb filter. added the flowing bass line with a different synth. Ran some guitar solos over it fingerpick style while a thunderstorm raged on in the summer evening. playing my guild Surfliner into a Vox 15R. Pedal chain is Joyo splinter>Caline Dual OD right side engaged>Vox analog Delay with a short trail reverb type sound.

Still so Blue

So this jam to me is like if David Gilmour sat in with the Velvet Underground. The lead guitar lines here are reverb soaked with a triple BBB Vox Delay. slow and calculated while the rhythm section has this discordant guitar rhythm and deep droning bass quality. When this is played live everything blends together into this crazy beautiful full sound...so I did my best capture that in this recording.Play this one something with a good bass response.   I have an analog synth drone bass line, which I made a beat to match and then played a chord progression over. Then I played a few lead runs over it. Clean guitar tone with delay. recorded live with 2 condenser mics. Took me a few days to hammer out the different parts of this and Im pretty happy with the results.

a little latin groove.that I had some fun building. Then I fingerpicked a nice chord progression, I recorded all this live and then recorded the second guitar live inl one take as well. I really like playing to some latin sounding rhythm, more to come.both guitars are recorded pretty clean second one has a touch of distortion via rat as well as my Vox modulated analog delay

a slow cook. I created this beat but to be honest I'm not sure what I did to it. its pretty stripped down but the drums have a very unique sound. I'm pretty sure I ran them through a filter but can't remember which. I recorded this the weekend of the air and water show here in Chicago in the summer of 2024. The jets flying over my house served as a bit of inspiration. You may notice some jet sounding phasers going.  Then I'm using my arturia analog synth on hold with a low end pattern that I played and put on a hold and then eventually tweak to start sounding like a sitar and then a bug. Then I played some spaced out guitar lines on my Guild, running the neck pickup on clean into an analog delay pedal into a Vox amp. then I let the beat drop out and completely off and just the synth and guitars get real spacey and animals like.

So here I am rippin my NEW gretsch guitar over a really basic rock n roll beat that I slowed down just a bit and ran through some compression filter just to even it out. This guitar has a p90 in the neck and that's all I'm using here. My signal chain is a Rat going into dual od and a vintage 3 bucket brigade chip delay.  Ive got my analog synthesizer playing a bass pattern that I I created for the beat. This is a pretty cool track that just uses a couple condenser mics to record some simple live sound. no overdubs, 1 take.... just live music. Try to listen with headphones plz. About half through I pause to rip the bong but I come back in strong.

I created this beat and ran it through an old Radio Filter, then I made a droning synth line. then I sampled Jo Stafford's Haunted Heart for the vocal line, I recorded all this live in real time.

quick improv blues thing that Ive been throwing together. Was having some problems with one of my recording channels proving very low output but I think I fixed it. I made this drum beat, it's kinda like a rock ballad thing that I sped up a bit, added a bass synth line, then ripped some guitar over it. all live recording in 1 take. On this one Im playing my squire toronado on the neck pup, into a dual OD with clean boost engaged, line 6 amp mic'd with a behringer instrument microphone, drums and bass are coming from the PA which I also mic for live recording, no direct ins.

when it rains it pours

I created this beat with my drum synth. Its a rock n roll beat that I slowed down and ran through a low end boost, then I ran that through MOSFET mixer. Then I used my analog monosynth to create a rumbling bass line, that I actively tweak the the filter on while playing my guitar. 

Then I ripped some power chords using my newest old guitar which is the same exact model as my first guitar ever...a black on black/vintage yellow binding Hamer slammer double cut, which now has a hungry cartoon wolf sticker under the bridge ala Jerry Garcia so Im calling it Black Wolf. hence the title of this song...enters the Wolf. (my first recording with black wolf) I also used an angry pig 12v drive pedal and my line 6 amp on a clean setting which is a fender priceton IR. This track has 2 ripping guitar solos that flow in and out pretty smooth and the drums sound huge yet shitty at the same time like a mic'd up toy kit.  I am pretty happy. I recorded and created all of this live in the moment while improvising using 2 microphones to record. A behringer instrument microphone on my guitar amp and an electric voice condenser mic for the drums and bass. there's a bit of a freakout with my synth filter at the end of this one which some might find a bit jarring.
very little mixing and mastering on this. Just a loud, clear, tight, live recording.

12 minutes of bizarre Improv. Was listening to a lot of Jeff Beck Group when I recorded this. It’s got a couple blistering fuzzed out solos in the middle section that sound like an old Chevy trying to turn over… my new Seymour Duncan tremolo box Using my Crate VC30 on this one close mic’d with a behringer dynamic. Alesis drum machine on a jazz pattern and my analog synth holding a drone with a vintage electro voice condenser. All Live recording, there’s no instrument separation here, so everything is bleeding over everything else and somehow the drums aren’t quite loud enough, but I still like it.
