Starting 2022 with a great artist, Aes Dana, one of the most aknowledged artist of the ambient scene and co-owner of @ultimae records

Vincent Villuis aka AES DANA is composer, sound designer, DJ and founder of @ultimae records label. An electronic activist for over 25 years, also a founding member of the Asura band.

Bass player and singer in several coldwave and industrial bands as a teenager, Vincent then moved on to composing with machines and specialised in audio sampling and layering of acoustic sounds digitally transmuted. Its music ensures a coherent fusion between Deep Ambient, Downtempo and IDM with a touch of Electronica Neo-Classical, Indus & Liquid Drum'n'Bass.

As AES Dana he has produced 7 albums, a collection of audio samples and about 50 tracks for various compilations, while collaborating with the Swedish artist Magnus Birgersson (aka Solar Fields) under the moniker H.U.V.A. NETWORK on 3 albums and with the Greek artist MIKTEK on 3 EP releases gathered later in the concept album « Far & Off ». They also worked together on the “Fragments 01 & 02” sample libraries. His solo-designed music library «Aethers» (co-published with Loopmasters) which was voted « best Cinematic Ambient sound bank » in 2015.

He composed scores and licensed existing works for short and feature films, documentaries and BBC tv programs such as « Atrophy Bank » by Sam Asaert, « The Passport » by Amund Lie, « Mandorla » by Roberto Miller or « Breath of Life » by Susan Kucera which opened new perspectives on composition and sound design and collaborations with various advertising agencies.

He is also the curator of the Fahrenheit Project compilations. As head of the Ultimae Studios, he earned a solid reputation for his Audio Mastering works & Sound Design.
He also is working on several projects in parallel: remixes, scorings & special projects.
His second collaborative album with Miktek is in progress and will be released in 2022.
A collaborative album with the Danish artist Lauge is also in progress.

Wintergarden

Fourth in a series of outdoor Immersive Mixes, this ambient soundscape was composed within a massive snow spiral 'eddy' set high up in a meadow in the Sangre de Cristo mountains. Nearby in the aspens sits an igloo with magical windows and thick snowbrick walls. This mix is an homage to the high country mountains and the damp quiet of snow and ice...and to the intercontinental connectivity of critical climate and water cycles of Earth, so much of which involves the brilliant polar realms. Reflections on water come in many forms, and here can be experienced frozen in the block of an igloo, or carefully carved into an interactive and compelling destination for the snowshoeing adventurer and/or contemplator.  

The spiral and igloo, perched at over 10,000 ft in the Big Tesuque drainage overlooking the Rio Grande valley, have been created by Santa Fe environmental artist Channing Huser as part of her ongoing multi-year land art project to document -- in strikingly visceral fashion -- metrics such as snow pack, water supply and climate change in the vicinity of Santa Fe's precious, mountainous watershed. Based upon her astute observations and experiences of the meadow, the spiral grows with snowfall (she digs it out and builds it up regularly after storms) and shrinks with bouts of warm, melting weather. Photographed each year in March, the spiral serves as an earthly barometer...measuring in sculpted turns the fall of snow - and ultimately water - along with the variability and dynamic nature of climate and mountain life above the high desert. 

But it is also a simple, beautiful spot for a vigorous snowshoe and outing with friends, evocative of  the movement of water and energy, with a 100+ mile view to put it all in perspective.  Magical indeed.
