“This was the first night back on the playa since 2019, and also the first night of my first burn. I was still getting my bearings, and now here we were, biking in search of the famed Mayan Warrior in the middle of a dust storm with nearly whiteout conditions — it was one of those surreal images of Burning Man that will be with me forever.

We followed the art car into the dust until it parked in front of the “Reflection” art piece. Once aboard the Mayan, I was stunned by the sea of colorful lights illuminating the dark desert, a scene beyond imagination. This set is the result of the incomparable, pulsating energy from everyone around me — it was like nothing I’ve ever experienced.

To have had the opportunity to play for the 10 year anniversary of Mayan Warrior was a huge honor. Thank you to the entire MW crew who made this dream come true, and to everyone who came out to support and welcome me home. xx Julya ”

Passionate about music and an aspiring vocalist, Janine Cook (aka j9 the Angel) is known for an enthusiastic and empathic approach to playing music. Her deliciously dirty beats destroy dance floors everywhere. She’s built quite a following and garnered the attention of audiences worldwide by streaming, participating in
virtually-hosted music events and festivals and collaborating on tracks and mixes with producers in the online space. She’s overjoyed to be playing clubs and events around the Bay Area again. She considers it an incredible honor to be a founding member of the all female collective - Angels of Bass, a tenured member of the legendary San Francisco Space Cowboys, and a resident with breaks crews, Fraktured SF and Red Hot Beverly, the Fire Extinguisher Car at Burning Man.

Friends and fam, here is my closing set from Winter Wayward Land on Dec 21, 2023, recorded live at F8 nightclub in San Francisco. This was a big year for Wayward, with some live performances, some exciting B2B sessions, and a lot of talent from across our community. We certainly ended it with a bang! Hope this set gives you a little end-of-year boost to help carry you into 2024!

This past visit to the Black Rock Desert in 2023, my wonderful friends at the Groundswell camp invited me to come play a guest set on the Kuker art car. As anybody who knows me can tell you, DJing on art cars and DJing at DeMentha are my two very favourite things to do at TTITD, so naturally I jumped at the opportunity. This was the set I played that Tuesday night in the deep playa. I still get goosebumps thinking about it. Hope you enjoy!
