The latest Deewee release sees the Belgian brothers hook up with Sao Paulo duo Phillipi and Rodrigo, otherwise known as Fatnotronic, for a pair of road testing club killers. Experimenting with synths, European club sounds and the rhythms and textures of their native Brazil, the duo have hit upon a unique sound which has done serious damage on the Despacio sound system in recent months. A-side cut "Karma" is a playful acid stomper built out of Wink-esque resonating synth lines, circular marimbas, village square breaks (complete with church bells and loose chickens) and some solid drum programming. On the B-side, the vocal led "Gueto De Gent" drops the pace and bubbles away with a body moving bassline and sunny synth sounds, treating us to some modern Balearic beat for the slower dancefloor.

Puisque l'afrobeat se cuisine partout et absolument à toutes la sauces, des musiciens et Djs se sont emparés de ladite chanson. Démarche intuitive et chapardeuse.L'Allemand Henrik Schwarz, qui avait déjà effectué un remix par le passé pour le duo malien (« Je pense à toi »), gorge le morceau de deep-house. Parce que c'est toujours un plaisir de se mouvoir au soleil, Africaine 808 – duo composé des producteurs allemands Dirk Leyers et Hans Reuschl - joue les ingénieux funambules futuristes. Plus loin, Lully livre une percée davantage nonchalante et urbaine et Fatima Yamaha, pseudo féminin dans lequel se cache le facétieux néerlandais aux multiples visages Bas Baron, emmène « Bofou Safou » dans des contrées funky obsédantes. Quant à Vasco, fidèle à son approche sexy et indolente, il impose une sorte de transe cathartique. Se glisse enfin sur cet EP, avant la sortie à la rentrée de l'album « La Confusion », un second titre original « Filaou Bessame ». Celui-ci plonge dans les traditions régionales, laisse voguer un saxo en liberté et des chœurs féminins à l'unisson. L'appétence est manifeste, la suite brûlante. Réjouissante réalité.

Starting life off as a cassette label in 2012, @UKNOWYMusic has since expanded into the vinyl realm. Based in Munich, Germany, the imprint is also host to beat event nights in its hometown. The premise behind UKNOWY is simple. It's about following a passion. In this case it's a passion for music. Although they try to minimize boundaries concerning genres, they seem to have a penchant for hip hop style beats with a sprinkle of house music on top. Both genres, among others, are represented throughout the label's previous releases of which there are now close to twenty. Currently, they've only had two vinyl releases, both firmly rooted in house. One in 2015 from Peter Clamat and the second in 2016 from Nemoy, with the forthcoming release being their third pressed to wax. If keeping with the current pattern, it may very likely be their only vinyl release of 2017.

"Our Roots" EP is the third aforementioned 12" and it comes from Swiss producer @Delakeyz, who you may know better as his melodic, beat-producing alias @Melodiesinfonie. The three track release comes with two remixes as well. One from Manchester-based Contours and the other from Austrian Moony Me. Our premiere today is the A1 and original mix of the title track 'Our Roots'. Dropping an afro-latin percussion groove over a steady house rhythm, Delakeyz is clearly gunning for the dance floor. Adding moody chords and atmospheric strings, the producer can't stay away from his melodic roots as he keys in squelchy, jazzy sequences over top. The sultry vocals are the cherry on top of a track that has both a solid groove and seductive yet wistful air about it.
