Using rolling percussion and a thumping kick, Luigi’s four track EP starts with a bang as the title suggests; ‘Primo’ really is unbeatable! Luigi uses synth stabs that add character and finesse to this outstanding piece of music. ‘I Believe’ uses dubby drums and an infectious vocal to really tear things apart before dropping into a melodic synth section that will make anyone move. Tantra’s melodic groove synths help this early morning track really come into its own before the main melodic section, accompanied by strings, will take any clubber to their own dimension. Hypnotizek rounds off the EP being more upfront about where it’s going. This cheeky, groove based track will warm up a dance floor quickly and get people in the mood for a real party!

Adam Beyer’s Drumcode juggernaut attracts more fans and critical plaudits with each passing year. Holding firm on its future facing ethos, techno’s number one label presents a new volume in its acclaimed A-Sides series with 20 prime tracks to signify its 20th anniversary. 

Such is the volume of quality music Adam Beyer receives throughout the course of the year, releasing all of it would be impossible. Enter the blue chip A-Sides series: a chance for the quality-obsessive label head to issue a collection of outstanding tracks that couldn’t fit in their regular EP release schedule. 

With an eye on future talent, as much as the label’s established roster of heavy-hitters, the compilation showcases the full breadth of Drumcode’s multifaceted techno sound, equal parts inspiring and functional. 

Led by the stealth techno funk of ‘Nine of You’, Beyer’s deft collaboration with Mark Reeve, the compilation takes in exciting highlights from big guns such as Alan Fitzpatrick, Dustin Zahn, Bart Skils, Pleasurekraft, Luca Agnelli, Jay Lumen, Kaiserdisco and Gary Beck. 

The rich vein of form displayed by emerging techno talent is similarly given prime position. Rising DJ/producer Boxia makes his Drumcode debut, fresh from a well-received warm up set for the crew at the hugely successful Junction 2 festival in London, while the likes of Enrico Sangiuliano, Juan Sanchez, Ian O’Donovan and Timmo also drop fire, establishing their credentials as some of the most promising talent breaking through the ranks in 2016. 

Reinforcing the global scope of the label, artists such as The Junkies from Toronto and Layton Giordani from New York, prove techno is winning a place in the heart of the new generation of artists coming out of North America.

Joining forces for the first time are label founder Len Faki and Juxta Position, a rather fresh yet already integral member of Figure. How effectively the prolific producers worked them machines with combined strength shows in every fiber of this four-tracker.

The record‘s sides feature two alternate mixes of each track: Superstition tempts with is sultry vocal, driven by an irresistible acidic groove, fusing Juxta Position’s preference for rough and analogue sounds with the tight programming Len Faki has become renowned for. Paying tribute to UK’s gritty brand of warehouse-techno, A2 introduces a more swinging and all-out version of the track.

A lot more tender than its counterpart, Gathering Clouds slowly builds from jagged synths and droning basses, brewing up a vivid tempest of anticipation. Verging carefully on the moment of emotional release, we are left to imagine the theatrical scenery cooked up in this delicious blend of the two artists’ singular skills.

Where the original was an unexpected tour the force in the clubs, Markantonio will surely do the same. Staying true to the hypnotic elements in the original, he adds that Italian flavour that takes this track to new places.

@alanfitzpatrick teams up with @reset-robot for We Are The Brave’s latest offering, "The Cosmic Opera". 

These two life long collaborators and friends join forces for a wonky analogue journey on Angstrom. Tough drums, jazzy hats and rubbery bass form solid foundations as the synths begin to work overtime mutating into some really crazy sounds.

Taking the rich fabric of the original motifs, @user-anfisaletyagodj creates a deep organic remix perfectly transcribing the original’s energy and menace while adding her own funky stamp.

Reset Robot goes solo on "Lucky Pig" weaving a darkly epic tale of tension and release. Building gradually to the first break, a sense of foreboding is resolved as the track thunders in the mid section. The main break strips back to basics: A kick and sonics giving no clue of direction. The final section is a barrage for the senses.

Opening with wildly overdriven kicks and phased shakers, "The Light" sees Alan Fitzpatrick in full on industrial warehouse mode. Pads rise as the percussions become more intense ramping up the tension all the way through.

2021; a new year asks for new projects, challenges and enactment. Joran van Pol presents his new imprint: _ENACT.  

The first release coming up is ‘Obsidian’, like the volcanic glass, the track is rock solid techno. A  nearly 7-minute driving rush, minimalistic, repetitive yet explosive. 
Obsidian is the first of a trilogy, which will be completed during 2021. The artwork is made especially for this track by ‘dotting’ artist Srch_of.
 
About Joran van Pol: 
Techno DJ/producer Joran van Pol has a somewhat special story. His debut release ‘Untitled 2’  was signed to Richie Hawtin’s Minus, followed by Joran's seminal release 'Faded'. Where do you go from there? Well, with the ‘Implicit E.P.’ on Dubfire’s Sci+Tec, several releases on Joris  Voorn’s label Rejected, a remix, and full E.P. ’Immediate E.P.’ on Matador’s Rukus and a collab with Maksim Dark ‘Thrill’ on Senso Sounds. ‘Derelict’ on Second State was added in 2020.
