The lyrics to ‘Samurai’ came as a spark from something I read in the NY times, It was an article showcasing drawings made from a woman imprisoned in Syria. She had portrayed her roommates in the prison, describing their characters and how the prison environment had affected their psyche over time. It made her think of the limited time we have in a life and how devastating it must be if it feels like your time has been taken away.

It further made me think of the ‘biological clock’ that is often referred speaking of women, that they have some sort of less ‘time’ than men to do what they want before potentially establishing a family.  The lyrics of the song is a blend of these reflections, a nostalgic throwback to what could have been, or was there but was taken away.

Samurai

A Piece of Heaven

The song is a celebration of the mineral salt. It deserves some celebration because it brings flavour to everything, as if all would be mundane and basic without it. We use it for food preservation, curing infections and it is also one of the oldest and most ubiquitous seasonings. It’s been an important article of trade throughout history, and the need for it has even led nations to go to war over it. It’s also used in religious ceremonies and has cultural significance in a diversity of cultures. It is essential for life in general, and it sort of unifies us. Therefore I decide to mix language in this song. The title is the French, the verses are Spanish, the chorus is Italian and the bridge is in English all sang by a Norwegian. The video is shot in India made by an Indian film director Tanmay Chowhardy.  It depicts a crisis where the salt has suddenly disappeared and Nora is running around looking for the salt thief.
