Kicking off 2025 to a foamy start, Virtual Forest presents a new release by co-founder 𝗙𝗹𝘂𝗶𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 (@fluidmatter). Exploring less-travelled avenues of the bass music continuum, '𝗦𝗼𝗮𝗽' draws on broken techno, drum’n’bass or leftfield, and welds seemingly distant aesthetics with Fluid Matter's vibrant and evocative touch. Aawadh - Nyteris [Annulled Music]

Annuled Music is back with another gem, this time introducing Aawadh - a new alias from French producer and Cielo Records boss JC Laurent. Known for his deep, hypnotic take on techno, JC flips the script on Dyadica, an 8-track debut album that trades 4/4 for halftime pressure and lands somewhere in the 80/85 BPM zone. It’s packed with groove, weight, and that sweet spot between heady and physical. There’s room for ambient detours (Ignys), tribal techno nods (Nyteris), and and straight-up pressure with Oscillia, but the core vibe? Forward-thinking halftime drum & bass with real depth.

We’re premiering the second track from the album, Alkymis, which together with the opener Evolys kicks things off and sets the whole vibe. Eerie and energised, with a kind of ritualistic swing to it. The drums snap, the synths melt, and everything flows just right. There’s a UK breaks feel underneath, but it’s doing its own thing. Big system or headphones, club or commute, it hits. One of those tracks that makes the world move a little faster.

PREMIERE: Aawadh - Alkymis [Annulled Music]

With 'Mica', Illinois-based artist @zvrra delivers a kaleidoscopic EP that pushes the boundaries of genre and form. Drawing from techno, breakbeat, ambient, and electronica, Zvrra weaves a sonic tapestry that is as intricate as it is imaginative.
Opening with ‚Butterfly‘, the listener is welcomed by a layered interplay of breakbeat rhythm and glistening synths which create a compelling contrast between motion and serenity. The top melody gently flutters, adding a soft emotional tone to the driving groove. The path continues through ‚Wooden Rain‘, where Organic percussion patterns tumble over each other like raindrops on dry wood. The tribal rhythms create a hypnotic momentum that feels both primal and futuristic. Melodies breeze through the third track ‚Prairie Scrub‘ which feel like gusts across a glowing plain. It’s playful and dynamic, evoking the wild beauty of a sun-drenched landscape. Closing with ‚Golden Beetle‘, Zvrra zooms in to a microcosmic world where they lead the listeners on an ambient exploration of chirping tones and looping rhythms, like observing little insects in the act of something strange and sacred.

Zvrra is an American music producer and DJ known for her wide variety of techno, house, and experimental music. Zvrra has released projects on prominent labels such as Avian and International Chrome. After a successful run with her 2020 techno single "Dress" and 2021 LP release "Bizzaroland," the DJ Producer has been performing at venues worldwide and has been a regular on international radio.

Across four tracks, it looks to merge minimalism with rhythmic invention, starting with the rugged 'Psi' with its thudding kicks and moody synths. 'Fluid' then brings more lithe, urgent rhythms with deft sound designs adding a futuristic edge and 'Interstate' then brings more raw texture and tension with heavy drones and paranoid spoken words that pan about the mix. 'Resin' shuts down with a nice tight blend of kicks and hits that is easy to latch onto and get lost in.

Inspired by downshifting cyberpunk originating from Chornobyl, the album Anomaly from Kyiv native Lostlojic is a true artifact in electronic music: firstly, it is a unique combination of trance synthesizers with deep smoky dubstep, interspersed with the sounds of nature from the Carpathian Mountains, and echoes of the cultural heritage of folk songs. Spatial sounds penetrate the secret places of your brain in a completely natural way, like cordyceps, creating unexpected neural connections. Secondly - it's a unique creative collaboration between a photographer Julia Coda, a tattoo artist Anton Kresan - master of dark tribal genre, musicians Lostlojic with Tadan on the remix - who’s tactile sounds will reward the receptors of the attentive listener with a dose of dopamine, technologies of the fleeting past and nature. Echoes of forgotten futures and glitching presents bleed through each phonogram, as rhythms stretch and fold like time seen through a cracked lens.
