'JFR' is an online, blind and rule-less, sudden collaboration between three minds alike.
A quick and quirky exercise, of sounds thrown at each other for further additive or subtractive edits by each one. A three-layered game for connecting and understand each other in a different way too.

The result was three unprocessed cuts of broken music, exploratory technoid patterns and 3 simultaneous speeches trying to cohabitate. An ink sketch on a empty page.

Continuing their extensive V/A series, the sixth installment of Various Artists is coming to the French Accents Records label. With eighteen tracks, the ACCENTVA006 compilation is a creative, open-minded curation aiming to promote an “outside the limits of the overly codified deep techno field” approach to music. The album is a diverse, loosely defined selection of ambient, experimental, and techno works from well-known and rising talents, spotlighting new faces among regular contributors to the label.   

Produced by the Brussel-based co-founder of Norite label and DJ Souleiman Bacar, aka lunar convoy, Delta Trancer is a hypnotic ride into a dubbed down, no-hustle territory. 

First, it grasps attention by the signature trip-hop(ish) groove, steadily proceeding with the confidence of an engine driven over the acid bass-line. Next - a shattered, almost imbalanced breakbeat progression, like a curtain, slightly opens inner workings. Then - promptly building back the rhythmic harmony - this time with a synthesized injection of the satisfying, energetic burst. Powered by a no-nonsense slow-burning internal combustion, the track moves towards the softer, somewhat inhabited, mesmerizingly soulful side.

Over the six distinctive tracks on Forbidden Islands, Madrid duo Uanamani defines their broad and multi-faceted vision of techno and ambient. The two genres become one in Derk & Iterbio’s hands. Propulsive rhythms surge forward, peak and disintegrate into plumes of heady fog. Float with the weightless two openers, drill deep into dubwise territory with “Punatori,” soar with club cut “Poveglia,” then ride out the smooth descent.

Lucie dedicates her creative practice to object-oriented improvisation, performance, interactive installation and theoretical and empirical research in the fields of Deep Ecology and New Materialism.

This ongoing inquiry is a fluid continuation of her studies of Sound Arts and Design at the University of the Arts London from where she graduated in 2018. She then returned as a visiting lecturer of Improvisation and Performative Practice in 2019, inhering the post from her former professor and well-respected writer and musician David Toop.

She regularly performs solo and group improvisations with her ever-growing ensemble of objects, materials and small electronics under her real name and with analog and digital electronics under her electronic music moniker Avsluta in venues across London and around Europe. In the past two years, these two projects have been going through an ongoing process of merging.

Ethno Service, a moniker for two electronic musicians based in Prague, are here with their debut long-player ‘NMA’. Released via LBD Sounds tape series, it comprises six masterfully crafted original compositions and a couple of remixes, including an uneasy jungle rework by Exhausted Modern’s new alias Oblaka and a spaced-out ambient escapism remix by voodoo priestess Lucie aka Avsluta. It’s not an easy listening affair, broken and sometimes unnerving rhythms blended with duo’s uniquely moody atmosphere, ever morphing and taking you places you didn’t even know existed. Expect percussion-heavy tracks on a lower side of bpm spectrum. You may dive into this album horizontally, or try to find out if it’s still danceable. Is it? Sure it is!

efja is a multiform electronics imprint operated by lunar convoy. This new endeavor will mainly focus on the experimental & abstract side of things, with a healthy dose of psychotropism. Man of many trades, lunar convoy has been on the forefront of Brussels club scene since 2015, with regular appearances at C12 and Fuse and his event series Metropolis (co-founder). He’s also co-running a successful deep techno label called NORITE. However with efja, he has set to steer away from any conservative club structures and instead embrace the odd and uncertain.

"While the Coronavirous lockdown made many things impossible or infinitely more difficult and painful, it also opened up an unprecedented space to think, to reflect and to work in ways that the usual pressures deny. 

On March 17th David Toop and Lucie Stepankova were due to play in a trio with Yifeat Ziv at Café Oto; then on April 9ththey were also booked to play at Iklectik as a duo. Both gigs were cancelled, of course, because of the virus. In support of Iklectik, Lucie and David agreed to record a track together in the only way possible, by exchanging files and passing mixes back and forth across the aether. The feeling of working on this first track was positive so they decided to make a mini-album. One of the elements from the first track was a reading by Lucie of a passage from Kenya Hara’s book, On White, and this preoccupation with colour became a theme for the whole project. Other tracks were inspired by the writings of Himla af Klint on mystical blue, Hokusai on shades of black, François Jullien on the six colours of Chinese ink and Cees Noteboom on the yellow/orange hue of a ceramic bowl. 

Jullien wrote of a transition from ‘physical concretion to spirit dimension’, according to the dilution of the ink. This is how these tracks felt as they emerged between April and June of extraordinary times. When the album was finished it seemed fitting to offer it to Café Oto in a gesture of support and hopefulness for the future of London’s key venues. 

David Toop and Lucie Stepankova have previously played in duos at Café Oto, Iklectik and at the Jhilava documentary film festival. They have also played in trios with Yifeat Ziv at Hundred Years Gallery, Tania Caroline Chen at Iklectik and John Butcher at Hangar Bicocca, Milan." - David & Lucie
