Progressive electronic music in the late 90s blurred the lines between progressive house and trance, dominated by epic trancey breakdowns, house style beats, dreamy vocals and occasionally just the right amount of acid. This period was particularly transformative in my electronic music journey and continues to influence my taste to this day, still resonating in the style of techno that I love to play.

This week’s show is a tribute to one of the true architects of modern dance music – Sasha. A legendary figure in the electronic scene, Sasha has spent decades at the cutting edge, shaping the sound of progressive house, trance and beyond, with his boundary-pushing productions and genre-defining DJ sets.

From his early days lighting up the Haçienda and Renaissance dancefloors, to the iconic Northern Exposure mixes with John Digweed, Sasha helped introduce a more melodic, layered, and emotionally resonant style of electronic music that set the standard for a generation. His studio output, from Xpander to Airdrawndagger, and remix work for the likes of Madonna, The Chemical Brothers, and UNKLE, has influenced countless producers and left an indelible mark on club culture.

This 90-minute tribute is just a glimpse into the legacy Sasha has built - highlighting sounds and moments that have shaped the progressive scene and continue to move dancefloors today, from timeless classics to fresh new cuts.

Ordia’s journey with electronic music began in the early '90s, falling in love with dance music before even understanding what it was. Influenced early on by pioneers like Jam & Spoon, Orbital, and Underworld, these formative sounds laid the foundation for a lifelong obsession.

His voice and selections have featured across numerous radio shows - from underground UK broadcasts to Melbourne’s Street FM, and even co-hosting on Kiss FM in the late '90s. Today, he's come full circle, hosting Positive Education every Monday night on Kiss FM Australia - a show known for its carefully curated sets, guest interviews and deep dives into the genre’s icons.

In particular, the 101 Series has become a fan favourite: a radio documentary-style format celebrating legendary acts like The Prodigy, Future Sound of London, Jeff Mills, Aphex Twin, and Underworld - weaving music, stories, and context into a sonic journey through their legacies.

While Ordia’s taste spans the electronic spectrum, techno remains his foundation - especially the deeper, hypnotic, melodic strains. His sets blend rolling rhythms, heavy synth basslines, and immersive atmospheres that are as entrancing as they are energising.
