Solen stiger upp över åsen och belyser staden bakifrån i gryningen, fjorden i dimma, tycks oändligt stor. Det känns som slutet på en väg.
Trondheim, vandrarnas och pilgrimernas stad. I Barockplanens stränga inre finns smitvägar som en undervegetation. Trondheim gör motstånd, odlar sin undervegetation. 

Men här finns också liberalismens grepp om sinnena. Staden är börs och katedral, säger någon. Det är business, cynism och spekulation, i skuggan av Nidarosdomen, mitt i det landskap som är som en amfiteater.

Studenterna skrålar från ett fönster i Möllenberg.  En gång i tiden bodde arbetare på dessa bakgårdar, trång och mörkt. Idag präglas området, av många små fastighetsägare – och intresset här är att så mycket som möjligt tjäna pengar på studenter. Möllenberg är både historiskt och i nutid en plats för spekulation i människors mest basala behov, att bo.

Den här liberalismens grepp om sinnena väcker ju motstånd i olika tider, som är synliga i Trondheim. Det tidiga 1900-talets trädgårdsstäder, eller storgårdskvarter till exempel, och idag med föreställningar om ett annat sätt att tänka om städer i Norge i ett experimentområde där man utmanar den idé som har byggt den norska bostadspolitiken och bostadsplaneringen under stora delar av de senare hundra åren, att man ska äga sin lägenhet. Den individuella friheten i det har kommit att ifrågasättas på senare tid. 

I Trondheim finns det en mindre stadsdel som är en bygg manifestation av detta ifrågasättande, det som heter Svartlamoen. Undervegetationen fortsätter att växa i Trondheim, andra vägar är öppna.
