Bold Explorations of Uncharted Space, Vol. 13

Me and you, watching the clouds go by.

Perhaps best known by Roberta Flack’s beautiful recording, this song was written by Irishman Ewan MacColl back in the 50’s. I recorded this on my iPhone VoiceMemos and simply added a harmony later. It’s a straight forward, simple acoustic interpretation of these lovely lyrics of love.

I recently listened, enthralled, to a wonderful piece of music here on SC, encapsulating Seagull's childhood memories of boats and the sea, produced in collaboration with David and his guitar artistry.  Having grown up on the banks of a river on the edge of the North Sea in a culture where fishing was an integral part of the local DNA, I enthused about the music; it absolutely captured the essence of sea salt in the air, and the dreams and memories it evokes.  I was thrilled therefore when David came up with a suggestion.....

Seagull, David, thank you so much for allowing me to add my own little nuance to this work;  I'm very proud indeed to be part of the result.

My sanctuary from archive gleans

Of adolescent memories.

Plastic water ocean streams

Silenced of the chuggy motors
Decimated by their quotas
Where the haddock, cod and herring bloaters?

The factory ships that hoovered clean
Of scaly friends the sea main wide.
Its cheaply speckled high protein
Squandered as the herring gull cried.

Where the fishers, where the boats?
Where the nets, and yellow rubber coats?
Where the pots, and lines and corky floats?

...wherein my mind 
Recalls a childhood spent in dreams
Of bobbing boats on ocean spied.
Why, they set sail for the past it seems,

This a collaboration with the great TexMex Shaman. It has awesome guitars, 808 bass and spooky lyrics. Perfect for a Halloween 2020 release. I mixed and produced this one, even got to play some Les Paul, and TexMex Shaman added the unmistakable lead guitar. His solo/breakdown in the middle still gives me goose bumps! Enjoy!

I suppose this track is like a sequel to 2 earlier heavier rock-leaning tracks I've made -- Trials and Tribulations and Weight of History. Both were channeling anxieties about US elections. This one is celebrating the outcome but acknowledging we are not quite out of the darkness yet despite a light at the end of the tunnel!

In the distant Subert Humlin, Gory Rallagher, Sank Frinatra, and Dats Fomino Galaxies, Her Majesty's Royal Intergalactic Empire is under siege by the sinister Khazargonians and their elite squads of shock troopers- the Jearl Pamians and Goundsardenians. Her Majesty has commissioned an elite force led by her three of Her Majesty's Space Navy's finest officers with several primary objectives, chief among them was the following directive: to combine the great tones of surf and fifties rock... with disco!
These elite officers are:  Admiral Krank of the SS Belgrade (Guitar, bass, beats, intergalactic espionage and assassination by exploding cigars); and Captain Mirth of the SS Zagreb- (Guitar, piano, synth, beats, and advanced thermal detonation). And our very own clockwork man on the drums, Mo Sheen (https://soundcloud.com/user-424452711).  Unfortunately, despite bravely serving Her Majesty's Space Navy, Vice Commandant Dubois has been court martialed and convicted for conduct not befitting an officer and counterfeiting baseball cards, stripped of his command of the SS Budapest, and dishonorably discharged from Her Majesty's Space Navy, though certain recordings of his guitar, synth, bass, beats, and forward deployable laser blasters remain here memorialized for posterity. Let it be known that though he has sunk to the very depths of ignominy, we wish him well in his new venture, the Spandex Spanktroverse.
