With the full length, Return To The 37th Chamber dropping April 14th, El Michels Affair releases another flawless two sider to hold us over.

Side A’s cover of Tearz is as much an homage to the Wendy Rene sample as it is to the Wu-Tang Clan track.

The song starts as a glazed over cover of "After Laughter" with Shannon Wise of The Shacks singing Wendy Rene's timeless mantra. Halfway through, the mood dramatically shifts and the drums and organ that drive the original RZA sample, take over. A dubbed out Lee Fields taps in like only he can, and the song spirals into outer space.

Side B finds EMA dipping into the deeper side of the Wu catalog with Raekwon’s Verbal Intercourse. Mixing the grimy, gritty production aesthetic of the original with elements of dubbed out reggae, El Michels Affair once again pushes the definition of a “cover” and truly makes it a tune of their own.

New York singer and activist Danielle Ponder pairs up with Melbourne cinematic soul outfit Karate Boogaloo to deliver ‘Look Around’ and ‘Little Bit’ , on limited edition 7inch vinyl for the collections of
classic soul fans and afficionados everywhere. The haunting A side “Look Around” has garnered glowing reviews since its release in July and substantial airplay on KCRW, KEXP, BBC and Worldwide FM among
others, and is now joined on the b side by the sweet and uplifting ‘Little Bit’.

Coming from different continents and different backgrounds was no obstacle to Danielle Ponder and Karate Boogaloo forming an immediate musical connection in the studio. The instant connection is obvious on both sides of the record, which were written and recorded in the same session. ‘Look Around’ is a brooding ballad reflecting on the times we live in, and the warm and soulful ‘Little Bit’ brightens the mood significantly with Danielle’s vocals reassuring “a little bit of love will make it alright”.

In Danielle’s words on ‘Look Around’: “fires were raging through Australia and smoke covered the sky. It felt like all of our human sins had gotten the best of us and we were paying a price. I didn’t know that
when I arrived back home in the U.S, the world would only get darker. I feel like my past self wrote this song for my future self knowing what was to come.” This song would help Danielle through what has been
one of the most painful years to be Black in America.

Orgone - Pops Brownstar

Orgone is an 8-piece soul machine driven by Dan Hastie and Sergio Rios, once two kids from the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles united by a hunger for raw soul recordings.  While the musicians began by covering Booker T. & the MGs, The Meters, and other giants of soul, they eventually carved out a sound all their own.  Drawing on their love of Funkadelic, Santana, Muscle Shoals, and all things Stax, the duo sought to create the band that, if they were to hear for the first time, would be their instant favorite.  After living and working as session musicians for many years, they were still unable to find a studio that adequately captured their warm, gritty sound, so they decided to make one.  KillionSound Studios was hand-crafted as Orgone’s hub and home studio where they continue to create (including playing on a handful of Grammy-winning songs), rehearse, and record with Rios at the helm as chief engineer and Hastie as co-producer.

By teaming up with fiery soul singer Adryon de León, the band discovered the secret weapon that would take their sound to new heights.  With de León, Hastie on keys, Rios on guitar, and drummer Sam Halterman as the backbone, a deeply-rooted family of LA musicians makes up the rest of Orgone— Dale Jennings, bass, Will Phillips, percussion, Darren Cardoza, trombone, and JJ Kirkpatrick, trumpet.

The band’s never-ending lust for music - with Hastie, also a DJ, as head crate-digger - keeps them passionate about bringing new (and vintage) inspiration into the studio to produce the analog California Soul realness that Orgone stands for.

Orgone’s live show is fueled by appreciation for their ferocious, loyal fans and any and everyone who wants to get fired up, turned on, and sweat until they surrender.  The true voice of Orgone is raw soul and deep funk delivered honestly, always non-GMO and preservative-free.
