Way back in October 2020, Gravit-E released his ‘Triple Shot’ EP with us and since then he’s been on a one man mission to conquer the world of drum & bass music. Thankfully, he made time to put together another massive collection of tunes which all make up the ‘Elements’ EP. Everything you could possibly want and more from one of the UK’s hottest new producers.

Title track vibes a run with sci-fi pads and atmospherics, linking in and out of trademark drums and off key single note bass stabs. It’s a wonky affair to say the least and one that will fit perfectly into a festival set, no doubt throwing the crowd and their jaws off guard.
‘Darkness’ is exactly that and more, embedding all sorts of moody vibes into the mix with its reverb soaked low end, creepy FX stabs and sweepers. A tune for the corner surfers, bar huggers and all of the ravers who just want to stick their head down in the dance.

‘Looking Back’ could well be aimed at the old school but is it? Probably not to be honest, however, it’s melodic female vocals fit right into place with the sharp as a knife bass swipes and arpeggiated synth patterns. Let’s call it brand new funk with a nod to the past yeah? All about the ‘Soul Train’ for a fresh approach at using wind instruments and guitar licks in drum & bass. It’s combined use of new era breakbeats and dulcet frequencies really pays off here, creating the ultimate concoction.

‘Turn Away’ wraps up the EP for Gravit-E, it’s bright and airy pads nice up any dance alongside pitched up vocal stabs, perfect for ending a set with the sun coming up, smiling at whoever is next to you and thanking your lucky stars we are all back where we belong - on the dance floor.

Sub Killaz have worked so hard in the studio as of late that they are really out for blood and by that, we don’t mean a rack of AK47’s and a box of C4, oh no. It’s obviously the blood of other producers who claim to make authentic jump up but really only slap an awful amount of high pitched nonsense together. We don’t send indirects here at Serial Killaz, only death threats by first class delivery. Who’s got mail?

Title track ‘Out for Blood’ takes place somewhere around 2005 with extra beef and more rolling eyes in the back of your head than you can shake a soggy stick at. It’s like a nostalgia trip for anyone championing jump up back then and no doubt, a vibe Sub Killaz have been representing for a long time. ‘Bad Ass MF’ ticks along at a rapid pace, its infectious drum programming and wobbly low end catapults you on a sonic trip, providing enough power till the very very end of days.

Pause for a second as ‘In The Night’ slaps in a false sense of security with its dreamy pads and all kinds of sonic delight. We won’t mention the sample here but when you hear it, oh gosh... What a treat. Head knocking bass and then some. Licking off heads with the final installment of the EP by way of ‘Tryhard’ which is something Sub Killaz and Serial Killaz (bit of a tongue twister!) have no issues at all with. Effortless beats and bass for your ear and if you love REAL jump up and not the nonsense trend of 2020, get your bloody ears around this.

Review:

OKey's Original Key imprint continues to deliver fresh produce as they invite Tokyoite-in-Berlin Tomoyoshi for two classically informed rollers. "Killa Soundboy" rattles and pops with a Clipz style harmonic riff and the development of big two-tone horn riffs but it's "Old Radio" that will be the pick for many thanks to its stripped back "Night Flight" style groove. With wobbling subs, dubbed out instrumental textures and all-round ageless groove, this one is not to be slept on!

Review
Veak is being given the remix treatment of his Kingston Town EP by a whole load of legends, including Bungle, AK12000, Vital Elements and RMS. The result is varied, moody release that touches beautifully upon all the elements of urban-edged dance music, including naughty rollers, stuttering jungle tracks and everything in between. Bungle's remix of 'Blazing' very much falls into the latter category, with a rigid but solid break that underpins the wispy sense of ambience provided by the constant pads looming over the arrangement. The others are equally sick - check em out.

Conrad Subs is a regular on this website because he releases such a wide range of music, so consistently and on such a diverse array of labels. This time he's back on Original Key, a German imprint, with a five-tracker that spans the spectrum from rolling techiness to reggae-infused, hip-hop jungle. It's title track 'Babylonians' that really caught our attention and Conrad Subs has previous in long, loping dub introductions that then flip into jungle pressure ('Leave Dem' - look it up). This time around there is less reece bass but even more percussive heat, as a flurry of stuttering breaks intertwine with your own expectations to form a shuddering bed of deeply urban sounds. Lovely.

Gold Dubs have had a very busy year so far and to top it all off - a release on the biggest jungle label in existence. ‘Jungle Is Changing’ is certainly one hell of a bold statement, however, with some serious backing from Serial Killaz, it’s something we are all willing to roll with.

Hopping straight into the Gold Dubs spaceship and straight into oblivion with ‘Distress Call’. One for the hardstep crew with its filtered out breaks and midrange bass notes, a tune that would fit perfectly in both your DJ sets and homemade Sci Fi movies. Cheshire Cat provides some memorable lyrics on ‘Rise Up’, a tasty mix of reggae roots and upfront jungle warfare. Scatty breakbeats fire all kinds of direct shots over the perfectly written chorus which will stay in your head for months to come. Hold tight Fleck on the link up.

‘Now’ is a grotty little roller, pure in its form of providing nothing but filth to the dancefloor. No messing about, straight for the jugular. You really do need to hear this through a big rig, a basement studio or a decent pair of headphones to fully appreciate it. Gilly G, a name you might have heard of? No doubt if you’re a keen reggae fan he’s probably on your hit list already. Good news then as he’s all over ‘Random’, a riddim so tough even that bulletproof vest you’re reaching for is probably of no use.

Final track ‘The Jungle is Changing’ backs up the initial statement. Our music is changing, it’s been through a big 360 degree spin many times, sometimes butchered, sometimes championed and this track demonstrates one form of upfront jungle that reflects both the future and the past. Pull up that shit!
