This one, you guessed it, is all about Dominican Mambo. It is not the one you hear nowadays tho, this focuses on the early version of mid '00. Before the Dembow and DR Rap hypes, this was it and it pretty much redefined Merengue in the process.

From big budget, clean-cut Merengue of the ‘80s and ‘90s, the millennium saw it incorporating simpler midi-based sounds. It then went into looped Merengue samples with x-rated lyrics, until it became Mambo. Now fully produced within a DAW, the lyrics were either hilarious or way over the top (similar to Baile Funk).

Armed with an FL Studio crack, stock sounds, and malware-ridden Reggeton librerias, you were good to go. Yes, you probably had to reinstall Windows XP again, but who cares.

Completely out of tune, with most tracks sounding like it only had Sausage Fattener on the master, they seemed like fast sketches to later be fixed with a live band if it took off. This new entry-level meant that pretty much everyone with a DAW had a shot to make a hit.

Established Merengue artists looked at it in disregard, where it downgraded Merengue in their eyes, but it didn’t take long before they hopped on the bandwagon. As soon as it came into fashion it already went away, unfortunately, but in those short years that it dominated, it left a pretty big impact on me.

In 2010 I gathered all my favorites for the I Love Mambo mixtape on Dave Quam’s 'It’s After The End Of The World' blog. Fast-forward to a couple of years ago when I met Nihiloxica who linked me with Nyege Nyege and here we are - it is actually out there!

True to form, the songs try to keep the essence of what made me love the genre in the first place. Out-of-tune melodies, raw sounds, and fast Merengue rhythms.

SURPRISE MOTHERFUCKER!! A big ass piece of text you didn't want to read anyway!!

So this year marks 5 years that I made this track. Time sure fucking flies yo. It's kinda ironic if you think about it, since I was super pissed as a fan listening to Datsik's "Firepower" as a shitty ripped version - it drove me insane. Only to actually get the motherfucker years later. Now unintentionally I am doing the exact same fucking thing, the only difference being that I took even more years. My bad man -___-. You would think that this almost prehistoric piece of music would sound dated 5 years later lol, but sadly to my surprise things haven't changed that much.

It kinda made sense to put this one out there since, well, look at the fucking name! The final version that is, since there are a couple of ripped concept versions flying around there. That concept version was the one I gave Dillon right after I made it back then, and he kept playing it over the years (thanks 4 the love bruh! <3).

Anyway, why did I make this shit? Well, around the same time I was obsessed with Swizzymack's "Like A Martian". Like literally, on repeat. Forever. When it wasn't on my MP3, it sure was stuck in my head. Always. Even while playing gigs, I still had that shit in my head. It was getting outta hand. So I had to do a little something about it. It wasn't caused by the fact that Lil B apparently got his dick sucked in the sky like a martian or that he considered himself a pretty bitch after his goon days. No, this entire fucking track was based solely on that little switch you hear around 1:44. That shit introduced the best part of the song and it drove me fucking NUTS. Instant one man mosh pit irl.  There wasn't any more to it ahahah!

So since that was the inspiration, I had to add some Club elements to that bitch keep it really straightforward and not over master it to keep the hype lyfe. Oh and the lasers you ask? That was a lil inside joke, since people were drooling over the fucking lasers back then. No matter what genre. I HATED THEM SO FUCKING MUCH YO LOL.

The cover was actually the video that we were trying to do reeeaaallly last minute. After the U-Haul video didn't work out at such a short notice, I found myself at a quickly organized houseparty where I invited everyone that wanted to come via my fanpage and basically went ham on everyone using 40's as if they were a champagne bottles lol. Before all of that tho I was running on rooftops in Brooklyn. Yeah, I don't even remember why we did that part haha. In the end it never got out there, but it still was a real fun ass day. s/o to all the people that showed up that day!

So in celebration of the death of them piuww piuww lasers I'm releasing - nah, I'm playing haha - I'm releasing this just as a lil something since I realized some days back that it was exactly 5 years ago that I made this. A nice lil surprise at the end that you guys haven't heard before. Especially for all you old ass dudes out there jamming with your cane, reminiscing the good old days when you wore your bluetooth headset forever attached to your ear. I know that you knew that that one was coming haha. Inkoppertje toch?

You know them days when you working on a project while feeling like a rebel n shit and out of nowhere start a completely new track in the same session, while not giving a fuck about how you gonna find the shit when you forgot you made it there? Exactly. After making some tracks on a random day, I suddenly felt the urge to make some Trap. Not your regular tho, all out guns blazing DOMINICAN Trap. So I instantly connected Godwonder and Dari Caramelo to drop some vocals and since I already was recording Frikitona you know she had to jump on it as well! Shit was fucking fun as fuck to make and Merengue styled Trap was a fact. #daddyyankeebarkstillinfinity

You see this concept goes way back. Like waaaay back in them Crunk days. 'member that? #OKKAAYYYYAHHH. I found myself experimenting with Merengue and Bachata tracks, making all kinds of weird hybrids. Super fun, but it wasn't until the boss called Lex Luger came to destroy the game, that it got me so inspired that I was like - Yo, I NEED DOMINICAN TRAP RIGHT NOW. IN MY HEADPHONES. ASAP. So I got them concepts outta the oude doos and next thing you know I had a shitload of Dominican Trap. So I put some of them on this Diplo & Friends mix I did in 2012. Just the thought of straight up just playing some old ass Bachata record on BBC Radio had me smiling.

That said, I fucking had it with the same shit. You go to Holland - there is Trap. You go to Puerto Rico - there is Trap. You go to France - there is Trap. You go to Scandinavia - there is Trap. You go to motherfucking China - there is Trap too. I bet that if they find life on Mars them aliens already tatted up rocking them Sosa dreads with the lean cup and Gucci belt. Seriously tho - you cannot escape the Kill Bill drop. IT WILL HAUNT YOU. FOREVER.

Talking about that - I'm having difficulty getting this fucking track outta my head. This Duitenkornuiten "Hoofdletter K" track pops up every day or so, that includes the sudden urge to whisper:

"Bitch ik ben Tommy je kan me niet stoppen. Want ik loop met een hoofdletter K op me."

I don't know how the fuck it's still on my playlist, but I'm pretty sure that it ain't going away any time soon. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Let's return to subject again, by all just taking a moment to besef the fact that there is an actual motoconcho on this cover. Let that thought sink in for a while. A MOTHERFUCKING MOTOCONCHO IN HOLLAND GETTING PRETTY FOR A PHOTOSHOOT. WELL HOW ABOUT THAT. AIN'T THAT SOME LOVELY SHIT.

Fuck bro, it's fucking amazing to see shit evolving once again. Got me feeling like a Pokemon master n shit. This variation of Moombahton / Afro that is really popular here in Holland (read; destroying clubs/charts the last 2 years) is interlinked with everything. Who would've thought that the tresillo rhythm would be accepted in this manner?! I mean nowadays even Enrique Iglesias on the radio getting pretty on Reggeton, still wanting to be a hero for the bb's and shit. But I ain't talking about that shit - it's what's happening here tho. When I made the Trap Bubbling mixtape a couple of years ago, this was exactly what I was hoping for. Trap vocals on top of them Bubbling beats. I'm smiling while fucking typing this, since on top of that rhythmwise what's "the beat" that is being used on every single one of these tracks, ain't even Bubbling. Matter of fact, this type of beat reminds me of the Reggeton beats of early 2000.

In Korsou you also had the Reggeton poppin, but the only difference was that they also had the heavy influence of Bubbling. I never really considered it to be Reggeton, since it was in it's own league. I mean, they followed the Reggeton trends and all of that, but always with their own melaza added to this rhythm. Fast forward to today and you got the Afro shit poppin. So you got those 2 sides being merged and create what is the sound that is destroying the lyfe over here. It's straight up the same shit you hear in the clubs as an actual track, defining it without overpolishing and fu-pop-cking it up.

Finally rappers seem to get the sound, skipping the entire hands-high-super-glittery-buildup-with-pretty-chords-while-in-jesus-pose bullshit. Life's good. Man I remember that I was being told this bullshit years ago; "Yeah this is great - but you need to add some chords and pop vocals". For the ones who know my unreleased shit - he was talking about "Tempo Got My Back". Bro that sample was by a dude that was in jail like 10 years for the shit he rapped. You had to see the look on my face yo lol!

So in a sense this lineage has Bubbling written all over it, so what is cooler than - adding even more Bubbling to it lol! The thing is that I made this shit in a Trap Bubbling context with Antillean Reggeton and Papiamentu Rap in mind. Then in some weird turn of events recently the Moombahton / Afro rhythm popped off. Beautiful shit man. So I got the fam on the vocals to top it off and add to the lyfe.  So s/o to the old, s/o to the new, s/o to Korsou producers, s/o to the Afro producers, s/o to the newskool Moombahton producers, s/o to the Korsou influences, s/o the fam. You know all is included in the track, so hope you like it! We out here <3
