Oasis Sunset Camp @ AfrikaBurn 2022 (South Africa)

This set was recorded at Kosmozoo at Saturday afternoon/evening. Big thank you to the people at Kosmozoo, especially Michel <3. Parts of it were also played at Mirage on Saturday morning. 
With this set I tried to capture the emotional rollercoaster that is a burn and especially Nowhere for me.

It's not exactly super slow, but for sure really driving - i hope you'll enjoy it as much as i do.

Malü is a super-talented up-and-coming downtempo producer & dj and also performs live with his friend and percussionist in crime Kalypsoul. If you ever get the chance to see them live, check it out! Das letzte Open Air

Das Wetter könnte nicht besser sein. Strahlender Sonnenschein auf einen blassblauen Himmel und das Ende Oktober. Wir leben in verrückten Zeiten, doch dass hat auch sein gutes. Ziemlich spontan haben wir uns dazu entschlossen ein kleines Open Air zu veranstalten. Wieder einmal an der legendären Brücke unter den Bahngleisen am Flussufer. Innerhalb weniger Tage wurde alles Notwendige organisiert und zusammengetragen. Eine Anlage und Licht wurden gemietet, Werbung über die entsprechenden Kanäle gemacht und ein der Kühlwagen mit Getränken aufgefüllt und bereitgestellt. Gegen 15:00 Uhr begann der Rave. Im schwindenden Sonnenschein wurden feinster Downtempo & Slow House zum besten gegeben. Anschließend folgte eine Melodic Techno Einlage. Währenddessen füllte sich der Platz mit immer mehr glücklichen und ausgelassen feiernden Menschen. Die Musik wurde der Uhrzeit und der hereinbrechenden Nacht entsprechend angepasst. Die Stimmung blieb gut, erst als die Polizei kam und der Bass herunter gedreht werden musste, kam das gesamte feuchtfröhliche Treiben ein wenig ins Stocken. 
Doch trotzdem ließen wir uns unseren Spaß nicht nehmen und genossen Kollektiv das letzte Open Air für dieses Jahr. 

Der Podcast von Kiki Kokolores erinnert an eine Jungle Expedition. Ein Großteil der Instrumente klingt außerordentlich organisch und die verwendeten FX lockern die Struktur zusätzlich auf. Über eine Laufzeit von 86 Minuten morpht ein Track in den anderen über. Diese Übergange sind zwar hörbar doch wirken so integral zugehörig, dass sich alles anfühlt wie ein ausgedehntes Musikstück.

For one month, I was immersed in the energetic realms of the forest, working closely with a delegation of 6 spiritual leaders and indigenous activists from 5 different tribes of Amazonia to help them raise their voice and the one of the forest. A deep and intense art-ivist work. During this time, I was away from the electronic music scene and I did not play at all.

Organizing 22 events within one month has been highly intense in many senses.
Physically intense, mentally intense and energetically intense. 

Living, eating, working, dancing, singing with the 6 of them was a powerful initiation of deconstruction. 
To relearn. 
To reconnect with what is essential. 
To listen to what Nature has to say.

From this transformative and beautiful path, I feel literally reborn.
It’s like I pressed a reset button.
I feel aligned, anchored and powerfully within my force.
It’s with this energy that I played at ORKA Club last Friday!
Right in the flow, smiling and feeling happy!
Always carried by the vibration of those mysterious and powerful sea creatures: orcas!

Träge Tage lange Winter, selbst das Wasser dünnes Eis. Packt sich ein in weiße Watte, fällt herab und legt sich hin. Täglich wird die Nacht verlängert, kleiner Hauch von Winterschlaf. Überall fällt Asche runter, außer da wo's wirklich braucht. Und das Meer ist aufgebracht, kündigt stürmisch Zeiten an, viel zu kleine Boote, auf dem Weg ins Niemandsland. Goldne Bälle winden sich, zwischen viel zu teuren Füßen, anderswo ist Sommer jetzt, nur ein Klick dann siehst du es. Sommer in nem kleinen Bildschirm, weiße Kleider gold bestrahlt. Weit entfernt der Hagelregen, schneidet Schneisen in die Stadt. Träge Tage lange Winter, und das Wasser deckt sich zu. Packt sich ein in weiße Decken, legt sich frierend auf die Stadt. Und von ganz dort hinten tönen leise Töne rüber, regen an und regen ab.

@arkadiusz-dmytrow mix comes with an enchanting entrance. Mystical and dreamy and a good amount of cool artistry mixed together. 

It feels like driving a fluffy bike through winter scenarios passing empty streets and flickering lights jumping between skylines. Deep and driven on one hand. Psychedelic and etheric on the other other. A lovely conjunction between two sides of the same coin. Certain tracks have been especially modified and slowed down for this mix to give the experience a more profound touch.

Arkadiusz, the founder of @afterhour-sounds, manages to lure you into a journey made of slow dreams and gentle visions. Steering the wheel slowly into a mixture of breakbeat and uplifting sounds to land the spaceship where it belongs: between your cheeks as a warm and cozy smile in cold winter days. Something happened. What it is might stay a mystery but you will remember it within your body. It's music embodied through soul.

Anbei noch seine Stellungnahme zu unseren Fragen:

• Was macht deiner Meinung nach eine gute Afterhour aus?

Eine gute Afterhour ist für mich, wenn die Menschen, die schnelle Befriedigung brauchten, gegangen sind; wenn verbleibende Zombies mit warmen Frequenzen vertrieben werden wie Vampire vom Sonnenlicht; wenn die Semi-Überzeugten ins Bett gefunden haben und nur noch über ist, wer einfach nicht gehen will und weiß, dass die Belohnung nach hinten raus funkelt; wenn mögliche Erwartungen an die endende Nacht sich in Luft aufgelöst haben und einen ausgelassenen Menschenhaufen zurücklassen, bestehend aus den freundlichsten Gesichtern die sich vielleicht vorher noch nicht begegnet sind, aber doch zutiefst vertraut sind - harmonierend, wie man es mit niemandem für möglich gehalten hätte - auf einer Welle schwingend und zelebrierend, als würde der inzwischen zeitlose Moment einfach nie enden.

• Welche Gedanken magst du uns zu deinem Mix mit auf den Weg geben?

Ich entdecke aktuell verschiedene Genres neu, welche ich in Zukunft weiter erforschen und in meine Sets mit einbringen will - ob noch mehr Deep House, Chicago House, Italo / Bretter Disko oder auch Tech-House. Allerdings, nach diesem Jahr, in dem nach meinem Eindruck Tech-House und (Trash-) Remixes überhand genommen haben - geprägt von einer kompromisslosen Vorwärtskultur mit einer ordentlichen Prise Trash und Spotify Recommendations - fühle ich mich mit diesem Afterhour Sounds Cast eher in Momente und Stimmungen zurück, wie sie für mich am schönsten waren, auch wenn sie teilweise noch aus einer Zeit vor COVID stammen.

• Was sind deine musikalischen Einflüsse? Was ist dein musikalischer Hintergrund?

Trotz einer umfassenden musikalischen Ausbildung in jungen Jahren, habe ich erst vor kurzem begonnen, mich aktiv durch Musik auszudrücken. Beeinflusst von Techno/House der 00er Jahre in Hamburg, einer Dubstep/Drum'n'Bass-getriebenen Subkultur in Edinburgh und einer Glitch/Trap/Deep-House-gefärbten Festivalszene in Kalifornien, zeigen meine musikalischen Reisen eine Wertschätzung für verschiedene Genres - mit neueren Inspirationen aus der sich wunderbar entwickelnden Downtempo-Techno und Keta-Pop-Szene in Deutschland.

Für ihr Verhältnisse kommt der Mix mit 85 Bpm zwar recht gemütlich um die Ecke, zeigt uns aber wieder einmal mehr, dass die Bpm-Zahl allein keine Einordnung in die Energie zulässt. Sphärische Klänge gepaart mit intelligentem Groove erzeugen eine fulminante Wirkung. Der Flow der sich von Anfang bis Ende durchzieht erlaubt es einem nicht, den Mix auszuschalten. Fast wie in Trance gefangen muss man diesen Mix bis zum Ende hören - Lasst euch verzaubern 🌀
