Dead Orko Waits Dreaming...A Mix For Gloomy Doofuses

Recently a friend confided in me that he had never heard any "goth" music and in fact had no idea what it sounded like. I rattled off some band names to him (The Cure, Siouxsie, Sisters etc) and he'd heard OF them but never actually heard them. His tastes run more towards hip-hop and he's pretty young (26, which I think is technically gen-z?) so I cut him some slack. But of course, I realized it was my duty to educate him. This mix was made for him, but I think it's a pretty decent intro to goth and darkwave for anyone. It's not definitive, because goths can never seem to agree on what actually constitutes "goth". So I don't think even think it's possible to have a definitive collection. 

Anyway, if you've been part of the scene for years, you're probably sick to death of most of these songs. But if you're new to goth, darkwave, deathrock or whatever, hopefully you enjoy this mix!

There's a second volume forthcoming that touches more on the electronic/industrial side of things, and includes a couple songs that I felt any budding goth should know, even if I could die happy never hearing them again (yes, "Bela Lugosi's Dead" is one of them)

Way back when, circa 1995, when I was wee budding goth lad in SoCal, my friends Michelle, Jessica, Matt and I would get Disneyland annual passes every year and head to the park pretty much everyday that wasn't blacked out. We'd inevitably stop for Taco Bell along the way because it was cheap and double decker tacos were amazing. These are the some of songs we'd listen to in Michelle's beige 1987 Chevy Nova (I think?) on the way there and back. Some of the best times of my life.  I made it 90 minutes since that's how long the mix tapes were that I would have made back then

Former goth/industrial/synthpop/whatever DJ who's currently trying to relive his glory (?) days by making (probably actually pretty lame) mixes on his computer. Also no longer in SF, but LV now.Yay?

I'll try to post a mix or two a week. I have a DJ controller and software and could probably try to mix these live, but my laptop sucks. So for now I'm just gonna have to use Audacity to put them together.
