This is a remix created from original samples (taken from my own catalogue). The idea was to create something whose instrumentation references oldschool soul, and spy thriller music. Strings, Horns, wah wah guitar etc. The instruments I've sampled sampled include congas, trumpet, saxophone. All the other instruments (bass, guitars, keys, drums, strings) have either been played or programmed by me. The vocal parts are from the original track and feature my friend Yamani 'Momo' Dazi on male voice, and his daughter Almas on the chorus. The artwork is an original painting of mine. Orlando approached me about playing on a tune I had released here, What the Funk, quickly sending 5 tasty tracks to me - a solid grooving bass line, a congas line, two rhythm guitar tracks and a George Benson style guitar solo.  I've worked them all in here, adding them to all my keyboard parts, creating some sweet soul jazz for your listening pleasure. Here's something we did a little while back (well...1995). This was recorded completely live in Wessex studios, London. The Big Cheese All Stars had just got back from touring, so the whole band were super-tight and ready. The vocal parts (Sharon Scott), and the zombies were recorded afterwards. We recorded the zombies in the churchyard outside Wessex studios at about 2 O'Clock in the morning - if you listen right to the end of the song, you can hear the sound engineer stepping outside to tell us that someone had phoned the studio to complain about the noise (Zombie noises) outside. Great comic timing...!

Spacecake International began in 2016 with a chance meeting of musically-aligned minds: Orlando Lund (from London), and Sergio Cocchi, Pepe Ragonese & Pancho Ragonese (from Milan).

The compositions on Spacecake International’s “Unicorn Street” album come primarily from a collaboration between two experienced songwriter / producer / musicians - Orlando "The Don" Lund and Sergio “SirJo” Cocchi.

Guitarist Orlando, who has produced and written classic acid-jazz-funk albums with the famously 'off the wall' London soul-funk-jazz collective "The Big Cheese All Stars", and later with singer Sheela Gathright under the name "Palma Groove Project", shared stages earlier in his career with artists such as James Brown, Gil Scott Heron, Roy Ayers, and Fred Wesley. He brings together all his influences from Space-Rock to P-Funk, from Soul to Acid Jazz and has contributed guitars, electric bass, drum programming, keyboards, and many of the backing vocals on this album, whilst also taking care of all production and arrangements.

Singer Sergio lived and studied music in Los Angeles, and has collaborated with artists such as singer Lisa Fischer (Rolling Stones). He has also written, produced and released 2 albums as singer of the funky Milan-based "Founda©tion" project. His incredibly soulful voice, and easy lyrical style is carried on the back of his crisp, accurate, multi-layered backing vocals. His wide dynamic vocal range handles deep baritone to Prince-like falsetto, and includes all the grit in between.

The songwriting duo are ably abetted by virtuosic instrumental performances on all the tracks from Pancho Ragonese (piano and Wurlitzer electric piano), Pepe Ragonese (trumpet), Pep Lluis Garcia (congas and percussion), Pablo Di Salvo (additional bass) and Miki Ramón (tenor sax).

Prelude In Lockdown

Orlando ‘The Don’ Lund is a songwriter, guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and arranger from London.

I began songwriting seriously (and prolifically) in 1990 when I was signed to Virgin Music. Since that time I've done a fair amount of 'honing'.

In the early 90s, after developing a taste for soul music and funk music, I formed the famously 'off the wall' soul-funk-jazz collective "The Big Cheese All Stars" - http://www.groovecollector.com/artist/big-cheese-all-stars/567/?fmt=0&special=0&srt_bio=artist - Our collaborations culminated in 1995 with the release of the double album extravaganza: "Prawns". This contained many of my original compositions interpreted by a group of the most influential and talented musicians in the London Soul / Funk / Jazz scene at the time. Although by no means defined by this genre, it's nevertheless regarded as an Acid Jazz classic with a twist of PFunk and a heavy dose of Soul. 

I play a variety of instruments – guitars, bass, keyboards, drums, percussion, vocals, and I have been producing for many years.

One of my current projects (Palma Groove Project) is a collaboration with the incredible singer called Sheela Gathright. Sheela is originally from New York.
