Back to the UK for the latest podcast episode: Manchester-based DJ Yant might be a relative newcomer but his name is starting to do some serious rounds. His full-on bass assaults have garnered attention from techno top brass like Setaoc Mass and Ben Sims, making 2022 a year which might just prove his zero hour. His productions are gaining momentum too, and a freshly launched party series titled Refocus promises to breathe new life into his chosen neck of the woods. For the latter, he himself plays and encourages longer set-times, with the aim of promoting more daring, less obvious track selections and pushing forward his thundering big-room sound. Just a heads up: these burgeoning beats are resonant, sweaty and thrilling; Bassiani Podcast 157 is raw, ferocious techno from this fledgling British heavyweight.

“I first encountered Toru upon exiting a Tokyo DJ both one evening. He was waiting patiently to pass me a CD of his work along with a polite, hand-written note.
The tracks had a uniqueness and an appealing futuristic feel, and thus a few of them became regular fixtures in my DJ sets” ~ Ø [Phase]

It was through this humble approach and initial exposure that Japanese native Toru Katsuta came also to the attention of Charlie M Duff (AKA Matrixxman) and his music gained further broadcasting (featuring in various podcasts and DJ performances). This eventually lead to an invitation in 2021 to remix for the fast-rising Alarico on Matrixxman’s The Grid label.

In 2022 Katsuta's futuristic sound debuted on Ø [Phase]’s Modwerks label with the 6 track ‘Phenomena’ EP (garnering more support from the likes of Luke Slater and Dave Clarke). He’s now set to follow that up with the complimentary ‘Interconnecta’ EP - Due out on Modwerks on June 23rd and featuring 2 mixes from Ø [Phase].

After making a name for himself as a skilled DJ with sharp focus and a quick mixing style in home country Belgium and the Netherlands, Kr!z launched Token Records in 2007. It has since been a leading outlet for heady, purist sounds. 

As a DJ, Kr!z takes listeners on journey’s surpassing space and time. Led by deeply hypnotic grooves, syncopated rhythms and widely reverberating atmospheres, his desire to guide the dancefloor into unknown depths can be felt with every note. Intensities build up and collapse under his skillful hands, knowing what each knob twist will result in. Vegim's journey into the underground began in the mid 90's. At first, music was just a hobby. Once he began collecting records his obsession grew stronger and he invested in his first pieces of music equipment. 1998 was the year Vegim became a full time slave to the underground. He rapidly developed his skills as a DJ and in his Production. The desire to tell his story through music took over and Vegim has never looked back. Earliest experiments in the studio go back to around 2002. Today, Vegim is recognized as one of Techno's most influential artists. Not only a skilled DJ/Producer but also a graphics designer and coneptionalist that has a style unlike any other.

He has released his own tracks and done countless remixes for many of the best known labels in the Techno realm. His tracks and remixes are well supported by dj’s like: Dave Clarke, Laurent Garnier, Chris Liebing, Ben Klock, Marcel Dettmann, Dax J, Slam and many more.

The end result is four driving, hypnotic Techno tracks with a swinging groove and 90s-inspired percussion. Made for the club, they build up tension and captivate listeners with rolling baselines, funky rhythms and mystical melodies.

Lady Starlight’s powerful modular live setup was wired into Rødhåd’s East Berlin studio for a series of recording sessions this summer, which found the duo combining knowledge and ideas to create tracks filled with urgency, rhythm, strength, and mystery.
