Stopping over the Spanish capital we’re delighted to welcome aboard one of the main names within the electronic national scene, Hector Mad (@hector-mad). The Madrid-based artist has been making people dance for already 20 years. Although broadly known as a techno DJ and producer, along as the head of Matterwave (@matterwaverecords), he’s nothing short of skills and versatility,  and this podcast, electro-focused, proves so. It is with great pleasure that we present to you our 100th podcast. Over the course of the series we like to think we have mixed up big names with the stars of tomorrow; have shined a light on lesser known DJs who deserve the limelight and given pride of place to people with their own distinctive sounds. One such artist is Helena Hauff, the DJ turned producer who cut her teeth at the legendary Golden Pudel in Hamburg. Though she is a DJ first and foremost, her recorded material on labels like Werk Discs and Handmade Birds has never been less than arresting thanks to its dystopian blend of electro and techno moods and grooves.

This mix she has done for us is just the same: it is ninety minutes of elastic electro, popping techno and slithering electronics that are shiny and metallic, crisp and futuristic. It will push and pull you in many different directions but is all tied together by an infectious sense of slick robo-funk. Right up there with electro greats like Drexcyia and I-F, Helena Hauff is a suitably singular artist to helm this landmark podcast.

Final Report

This mix, released via Electric Deluxe in February 2017, features music that influenced the very earliest Orphx recordings. Our first cassettes were released in 1993 and 1994 on the Xcreteria label. This material will soon be reissued on double vinyl from Mannequin Records and on double CD from Hospital Productions. Release date: March 10, 2017.

Samuel Kerridge is one of the most striking techno producers around. Offering up a wall of noise and rhythm, texture and experiential electronics, he stands alone and really doesn’t care what anybody thinks. This attitude allows him to push borders and explore new ground on labels like Downwards, Contort and Blueprint. There Berlin based Brit is as exceptional in the DJ booth ask he is the studio and live arena, and his output remains as vivid and vital as ever six years after his spellbinding debut. 

This mix is arresting from the off. It’s a blizzard of overdriven drums and frazzled synth lines that are impossibly restless and raw. Even the moments of relative emptiness and calm are pregnant with tension and menace before things race off once more and leave you gassing for breath. It’s an impressively exhilarating ride that balances light with dark and calm with chaos in just the right proportions so as to never let up and never let you go.

@jk-flesh was born in Birmingham, England, his a singer, songwriter, guitarist, and drummer. He was briefly in the English grindcore band Napalm Death but is best known as a founding member of the band Godflesh.
 
In recent months, he has constantly promoted his alias JK Flesh, a project that is more oriented to contemporary techno and industrial. Justin has releases on Downwards, Electric Deluxe and Hospital Productions to name just a few.  

He exclusively presents his new live hardware, enjoy this mutant techno odyssey.

One of the most highly respected acts in both techno and industrial circles, Orphx (Rich Oddie and Christina Sealey) have been refining their signature fusion of hypnotic rhythms and experimental noise for many years. They began in the early 90s with a raw sound inspired by old school industrial but soon began incorporating elements of dub, techno and electro into their work. Orphx built up an international following as one of the pioneering acts within the European "rhythmic noise" scene. More recently their work has come to the attention of techno fans through a series of acclaimed releases on the Sonic Groove label, collaborative work with the likes of Ancient Methods and Justin Broadrick, and remixes for many artists including Front Line Assembly, Oscar Mulero, Perc, and Conrad Schnitzler.

Oddie and Sealey have performed around the world at celebrated venues like Berghain and Tresor, and festivals such as Berlin Atonal, Movement, Mutek, and Unsound. They are renowned for their improvised performances, combining software with modular synthesizers and other hardware. Building on a sprawling back catalogue that stretches across industrial, ambient, and techno, their recent output has demonstrated that Orphx are both pioneers and innovators in the fusion of rhythm and noise.
