Prettybwoy’s debut is entitled Tayutau ( 揺蕩う), a traditional Japanese term often used in haiku and literature, meaning ‘waver’ - a state of indecisiveness, to lose determination or purpose, often temporarily, or to drift or sway to and fro. Made over the last two years whilst dealing with isolation, job loss, burnt hard-drives and almost losing the whole project, the album has seen several phases and degrees of anxiety, uncertainty, hope and frustration.

‘Too many things have changed since starting to make this album, and I think that is reflected in the production. The album can be split into three parts – tracks I made before the pandemic when things felt stable, tracks made during lockdown in isolation, and tracks made during the cautious and conflicted opening up and the lead up to the Olympics. There has been so much confusion and changes back and forth, but I want to have hope and try to keep focused, which at times hasn't been easy’

As well as drawing from external causes, 'Tayutau' also comes from a place of internal uncertainty.

'This is a trip in search of my new identity, or maybe to understand my current one. I am Japanese, living in Japan, but my music is only released by labels from other countries. I am a member of SVBKVLT (China), and also Polaar (France), but where or who am I in Japan?’

Tayutau is a 10 track album, featuring two vocal appearances from lIlI and a collaboration with Primula, and comes with artwork and video from Wang Jingxin. A separate EP of remixes will be released shortly after the album.

For our first release of 2022 we are excited to welcome Fukuoka born, Kyoto based producer RILLA to the SVBKVLT roster with ‘Yugeki / 遊撃’, the first in a series of EPs for the label.

Featuring 5 thunderous original tracks, and packaged with equally fierce remixes from Howie Lee, Osheyack and Hyph11E, the title ‘Yugeki’ translates to ‘attacking the enemy or assisting allies as the opportunity arises’, a ‘search-and-destroy mission’ or a military action without a predetermined target. Tianyi’s artwork encompasses this concept perfectly with a cloaked combatant, bow drawn, prepared for action.

Rilla

Rilla has been active in the Japanese music scene for almost 25 years, starting as a DJ in Tokyo in 1997 and a buyer for Cisco Records since 2002. His event ‘Almadella’ with Keihin and Yusaku Shigeyasu presented and toured artists such as Shackleton, Peverelist, Scuba, Goth-Trad and Karafuto aka Fumiya Tanaka, with Rilla himself playing over 50 events a year. Since 2012 he has been based in Kyoto, and in 2020 released his first EP ‘SFTM002’ on Torei’s ‘Set Fire To Me’ label. His SVBKVLT debut ‘Yugeki / 遊撃’ sees Rilla expand outside of Japan for the first time, with a second EP set for release later in 2022

Seven orbits is an audiovisual performance designed for immersive sensory experiences.

It plays with the senses through vibration, light and sound to induce potential altered states with an emphasis on the transcendental and animistic connection with the natural world and the divine as can be found in past and present rituals around the world.

The softwares used to create the experience communicate with each other so that the sound, played live on DAW, drive the real-time graphics as well as physical live elements; Further control of the experience is also achieved by using external physical interfaces;

The archive book is a culmination of all the moving parts that make up Club Chai at once – a way to honor the project's complexity and intimacy. A way to honor the project's complexity and intimacy. How do we remember and archive something that is really made up of a fleeting feeling? Being on the dancefloor with friends, singing in unison or zoning out in complete bliss. It feels right to create something physical that can be held, touched and encountered slowly and
