Another third-bridge guitar experiment.  All sounds, except for the bass guitar, were made with the third-bridge guitar, a multi-effects pedal and a delay loop.

Photo: He had been trekking through the Artificial Mountains for several minutes and was beginning to become disoriented.  A crow flew overhead, cawing steadily.  He looked up and stared at the passing bird.

"I know it's wrong to anthropomorphize," he said to himself, "but I think that sumbitch is laughin' at me."

Looking back at the ground, he found himself at a dry streambed which had once been a raging torrent of perhaps an inch or two deep.  But for a few tiny pools, it was now devoid of water...water...precious, life-giving water!  He coughed.  His dry throat began to torment him.

Then, in his delirium, he heard a voice inside say, "Look over your shoulder."  Slowly, he turned and looked, and sure enough, there was a parking lot.  And in that parking lot was his car, and in his car was a bottle of clear, cool water!  He shouted for joy, knowing he would live to return home and tell his dear daughter of the harrowing ordeal in the Artificial Mountains.  And she would smile and say, "I'm so glad you made it home, Daddy.  Can I borrow the car?"

I Killed Some Time

My dad liked gadgets, and one of his favorites was a Sony reel-to-reel tape recorder.  He recorded the usual stuff people recorded at home in the 1960s: favorite cuts off records, radio broadcasts and his kids as they were growing up.  I've been transferring some of the tapes to digital files recently.

Dad probably liked nothing better than spending time with his boys, and when we were little, that meant lots of wrestling and "bucking horse".  That's most of what we do here, plus a rendition of the "Daniel Boone" TV show theme and some review of my recent adventures.  At the end of it, we both find something incredibly funny, but I can't remember what it is now.

If it's hard to understand much of what I say, well--I was three years old, and I learned to talk in a world that sounded a lot different from the one I live in now.  This was recorded February, 1966 in Mer Rouge, Louisiana.

It's always an honor when I get a chance to collaborate on a track with the master percussionist Hearn Gadbois. He sent me a short improvisation a while back, and I sat with it a while, wondering what to do, until the next step became obvious: it had to be gourd banjo.
