I first heard this song years ago from my friend Jim Page, who turned me on to the Christy Moore version, which is awesome. Mine is patterned more after the songwriter's version, the songwriter being Jimmy McCarthy. It's a yearning ballad. I like that kind of stuff. Me playing and singing everything.

Written by Allen Toussaint, a cry for freedom. Me playing and singing everything. Have a thoughtful 4th of July. Try thinking about other people besides yourself and realize that no one is free until everyone is free.

Freedom for the Stallion

From a gig on 3-4-2004 at the Tractor Tavern in Seattle. Thanks to Dan Tyack for making it happen. Godspeed to our departed friend Darick Campbell who is playing here. To my recollection, the other players were Ron Weinstein organ, Mike Stone drums, Garey Shelton bass, with Dan, Darick, and myself singing and playing electric guitar. I sure miss playing with all these master musicians but especially Darick because I know I'll never get to see him again. RIP my friend.

A Change Is Gonna Come 3-4-200

I've replaced Marvin Gaye's lead vocal with my dobro, trying to mimic his phrasing as closely as I could. I do this with songs sometimes to work on my dobro technique and get as close as possible to "singing" with the instrument.
