If you read the lyrics below, you can tell that Prodigal Son is a really deep song that touches on issues that are very close to home and are important to me. The music itself is very experimental because it's a part of my own trademark (pretentious) genre  that is called "Progressive Hip-Hop Electronica". That means it uses real and synthesized instruments (played by me), odd time signatures, and different effects that are not usually found in average rap music. This song itself is in the odd time signature of 7/4 (some would read it 6/4 - 9/8) in the verses, then goes back to 3/4 in the hook/chorus. I'm a huge fan of Electronica, and in turn I tend to get inspired to use elements of electronica (samples, lots of keyboard layers, obtuse song structure) in my works. I have said too much already, so the lyrics are below. Hope you enjoy!

Verse 1:

The Prodigal Son. Came out of the slums. It's where I begun to realize that my eye's been blinded.
Now I sit here in silence. And my mother decided that we would never be another victim to violence.
Even though I denied I despised it, we up and left from the island where I grew up.
The feeling was rough. Got visions of living so tough. Don't need a reminder, 'cuz that image is vivid enough.
Then I move up to a new state of mind and a different agenda. Feels like I live in a blender, but I will never give a surrender.
The Prodigal Son is not a pretender. Got so many thoughts that I cannot discern, so I'll just "return to sender".
And I meant to give myself another reason to keep breathing, but I can't seem to find the demon thats hiding so deep inside.
I feel the vibe when my people...they try to keep me grounded, but they cannot relate, cuz I'm from a different place and I'm so surrounded.
But I won't allow this to totally take a toll on me...weight on my shoulder is great, but you know I will take back control of my fate.
