Four years on from his explorative third full-length ‘Aquamarine,’ Londoner Ash Walker returned in June 2023 with an equally ambitious follow-up, 'Astronaut'. Alongside a plethora of award-winning collaborators and combining a dizzying array of sounds, ‘Astronaut’ hears Walker push his astral shower of rhythm and vibes to new heights. If 'Aquamarine’ was the take-off of his audial spaceship, ‘Astronaut’ is the cosmic voyage reaching terminal velocity; a rocket-powered masterclass spanning jazz, blues, soul, funk, and reggae.

An avid record collector, Walker has DJed far and wide... from the infamous Royal Mail squat party to the canals of Venice, spinning vinyl in Brixton with The Specials to scattering dub across San Francisco and LA. His own production output is similarly exploratory: his journeys have taken him far and wide, from tunnels under the river Thames to recording local percussionists in the Atlas mountains of Morocco. Inspired by a deep dive of sounds from artists including Duke Ellington, Quincy Jones, King Tubby, Bo Diddley, 4Hero, J Dilla, Pete Rock, Curtis Mayfield, Philip Glass, and Steve Reich; his first two albums, ‘Augmented 7th’ (2015) and ‘Echo Chamber’ (2016) gained attention from the likes of BBC 6 Music DJs Gilles Peterson, Don Letts and Gideon Coe.

Ensemble Entendu - a collaboration between Evan Shornstein (Photay) and Astro Nautico co-founder Sam O.B. - return with their first piece of music since Selected Rhythm Works Vol. 1, the duo's debut album released almost 2 years ago exactly. We all feel the passing of time, for better or for worse, but in this case it’s marked with celebration for the past, present and future. A jubilant romper, 'Time Is Certainly Passing' pays homage to stadium pop legends like Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel in a balearic adaptation more suited to intimate, fluorescent dancefloors. Driven by a rhythm at once tropical, disco and afro-beat, painted with soaringly cosmic synth orchestration washed through grand canyons of reverb, Ensemble Entendu have announced their re-arrival here underlined and bold, a testament to the confidence both artists have achieved together over time with their sound as a powerhouse creative tag-team. I Can See, the second transmission from Harvey Sutherland’s upcoming 12”, increases the intensity from the broken beat cinemascope of first single Amethyst. Like its predecessor, it features Kahlil Memphis on drums. A fractured jungle excursion with moments of thundering energy and an undeniable UK spirit, the track's inspiration is rooted in a visceral hallucination; the feeling of climbing a never-ending staircase, each step drawing you closer to the light. I Can See draws to a close with the fitting together of a beautifully complex puzzle, before a cut to black.
