Charango Nueva Vida

a special arrangement for solo guitar, created for a James Bond feature on Adam Rudegeair's Black Wax show on PBS Radio in Melbourne. Moonraker is a solo guitar arrangement of the James Bond theme in 1979, and it was recorded at the end of the lockdowns, marking the first recording I did in my new studio space at Hope Street.

In this arrangement, Oscar cleverly interprets Shirley Bassey’s original vocal melody on the nylon string guitar, keeping the harmony fluid while also showcasing the orchestration of the original piece. The intertwining violin lines are placed delicately, while the rhythmic accompaniment, reminiscent of Bossa Nova stylings, gives the piece a smooth, laid-back feel.

Australia’s most recognised Latin Big Band, Mucho Mambo's fourth album Organico features some of Australia’s best Latin and Jazz musicians and a dynamic mix of Latin rhythms including Songo, Son Montuno, Cha Cha Cha, Mambo, Salsa, Bolero, Mozambique and Cuban Folkloric.
The original compositions combine traditional Latin rhythms with a distinctive writing style strongly influenced by western music genres such as Jazz, funk & soul, to produce a unique Australian interpretation of Big Band Latin music. 

Organico stems from the culmination of Mucho Mambo performing live for 15 years and developing an original sound based on the dynamic and world class big band arrangements from the golden era of Latin and Jazz. Mucho Mambo reinvents these classic styles with a uniquely funky edge.

We're proud to present the first listen from the third instalment for La Sape;(SAPE003) is from one of 30/70’s founding fathers. Melbourne bassist, composer and producer Horatio Luna. The left-leaning jazz musician known for boldly experimental compositions moves towards a soulful house sound on Cultural Warriors with a nod to Moodymann.

This record features the innovations of jazz-soul-bap producer/instrumentalists Nap King Cole (Silent Jay x Jace XL), Perrin Moss(Hiatus Kaiyote) and Ziggy Zeitgeist(Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange) who have each, in there own right, re-created and re-invented the ideology of what it means to be a jazz musician in the modern age.

Cultural Warriors came about by accident. A chance recording of a jam session curated in conjunction with Melbourne selector Eddie Mac. Each track has Horatio Luna’s signature organic, lo-fi, loose sound characteristic to a warm personality; chopped and stretched into four grimy, soulful house jams.

From Horatio Luna: “The audio from the desk was raw, dirty and peeking but the ideas were so strong I had to use it... I’m thankful that the genius engineer was MIA most of the night, sleeping in the booth, it made for a beautiful dirty aesthetic. On the gig we took things to the future, playing for hours and just jamming out on what we were feeling... It was like a dream! Completely improvised house music. Serene Favero and Milan Ring came through, as they were out on the town, everything bumped up a level from there!”

'Cactus Dance' the opening single from 'III' is the distillation of the GODTET sound. Part Dub, part Funk and any other musical adjective available to categorize this uncategorizable sound. Godriguez's latin roots shine their brightest vicariously through the band on 'Cactus Dance' as his guitar playing acts as needle and thread weaving and tying the fabric of GODTET.
