Launched in 1995, they have been one of the region’s most popular hires for marriage celebrations. Forget western stereoypes of schlocky wedding bands. This circuit is the lifeblood of Sahelian musicians and a space where sound directly channels celebratory energy. This responsive nimbleness resounds throughout Etran de L’Aïr’s debut record, No. 1. Coming May 1st on Sahel Sounds, the album was recorded under the wide sky outside Etran de L’Aïr’s Agadez compound and you can hear joyfully ululating neighbors calling back to the supercharged musicians. Frosty premiered “Tamiditine” on Open End, his weekly Red Bull Radio voyage around the globe.
