The origin of the name Khary (KHA-ree) is of Swahili African descent roughly translating to “Kingly” or ”Son of the King”. Born first-generation American in Queens, NY, Khary Alexander is the son of two West Indian Caribbean immigrants from the island of Trinidad. Growing up in the boroughs of New York in the early '80s meant his young ears were no stranger to the cultural melting pot of sounds that permeated from street blocks. At any given moment, he could expect to be serenaded with sounds from classic era boom-bap hip-hop, salsa & merengue, and the ground rumbling sounds of his father’s bass guitar running through reggae and jazz standards. ‘Stuck Off The Realness’ is a nostalgic nod to his childhood upbringing and cultural background, melding influences from dub reggae, hip-hop, and jazz all in one package. Check the vocal chop and song title honoring the late Queensbridge legend, Prodigy of Mobb Deep from ‘Shook Ones, Pt. II’ and the flip from legendary jazz composer, Bob James from the cut ‘Caribbean Nights’. In a time where the country has made space for black voices to be heard, King Khary is the embrace of a new moniker honoring his namesake, culture, and vessel to tell his story.

I've decided to challenge to myself and put a message out into the world that I, Khary Alexander, will create a beat a day.  The beat doesn't have to be complete...it doesn't even have to be completely cohesive.  The only guideline I've set forth for myself is that it has to be at least 40 seconds in length.  The reason I'm putting this out there is to be held accountable.  I've just grown tired of incomplete beats sitting on my hard drive, losing inspiration from where they came, and them eventually growing stale.  This is to challenge myself to stay fresh, sketch and continuing to create more regularly.  So, I ask you to hold me accountable.  I'm going to try to see this through at least for a month and see where I go from there.  Leave me words of encouragement, tell me I suck, or if you like something, tell me "get your ass in gear and finish that damn beat!".  Skip+Clap was done yesterday 10/28/15.  The rest are just other incomplete sketches pulled out from the archive.  Time to liberate myself

Observation of the Day: Realizing what a task I've taken on.  Has it's good and bad.  For one - It's starting to take a toll on my sleep, but still uploaded something for the night...and, that counts from something, right?  Actually, considering easing back to a beat every other day.  Out of the sleep deprivation and almost giving up, these sweet Prophet V melodic chords came.  However, it didn't start to really develop into the wee hours of the night and I need to get bed ;(  #stayswagged tho'
